U2 covers album
« on: September 11, 2011, 03:31:25 AM »
Question #1:  Is the U2 covers album made up of songs specifically from Achtung Baby or is it possible a few might be covers of songs from Zooropa?  I ask because Zooropa is being re-released with the Achtung Baby box sets and it seems like this era of U2 (early 1990s) is represented by both albums.

Question #2:  The U2 covers album was commissioned by Q magazine, correct?  How does that affect the U2 covers album availability for purchase?

The track list hasn't been released, and I guess it's possible that there will be some Zooropa songs, but my gut tells me that this will just be a 12-track CD with each track of Achtung Baby represented.

Q magazine often has CDs mounted on the cover.  Although it's published in the UK, usually copies start appearing over here within a week or two at places like Barnes and Noble (and Borders before they went under).  I don't think we'll have problems finding this issue of the magazine once it starts shipping to the US.

It can be a bit pricey, but I have never regretted buying a MOJO comp.

Sorry for being so uninformed, but I have some follow-up questions.

Question A:  What is a "MOJO comp"?

OK, I clicked on the link and read the info about the MOJO magazines, which I just found out is the sister magazine to Q magazine.

Question B:  "a bit pricey" - Are you referring to previous Q magazine issues (from the UK) that had a CD attached to the magazine with plastic wrap?  I'm trying to envision what to expect.  I've never bought anything like this at the Barnes & Noble stores or the Borders stores.

If it's anything like the MOJO promos I've seen, none of the tracks will be by anyone nearly as recognizable as the least of those. And they will all suck.

First of all, this isn't coming out with MOJO magazine, but rather with Q Magazine.  I know they are two sister magazines, but in this case it is Q Magazine that is putting the CD together, and it will be released with Q Magazine in November as far as I know.

If you want to know what it will cost?  Check your local bookstores, and magazine stands and see if they cover Q.  It is also important to ask whether or not they will get the CD associated with the issue.  In some cases the magazines will not ship to North America with the CD included so you may need to order from overseas.

The other option is to buy via:
http://www.greatmagazines.co.uk/
Price for the most recent issue is 5.99GBP, or approximately $9.30US
I'll post the link to the issue with the U2 tribute CD once the issue has been released.

As for the quality of the bands involved in the release, already confirmed is Depeche Mode doing "So Cruel", Patti Smith doing "Until the End of the World", Damien Rice doing "One", and Jack White covering "Love is Blindness".  I also heard that Elbow had been approached about doing a cover, but never had confirmation as to whether or not they actually accepted.

Oh, and for the record, Nine Inch Nails isn't together anymore, so unless they meant How To Destroy Angels, Trent Reznor's new band, I'm calling bunk on that one.

Slaneman's list above was clearly labeled as speculation.  The only artists announced so far are the ones I listed in my post as far as i know...

CD should be released with the October 25th issue of Q.  Expect it to show up as an import about 2 weeks later in North America.

::: Already managed a trade with a good friend from Great Britain to obtain my copy!  ::)

I hope don't be a disappointing performance of certain musicians that I like.

and Gavin is working with 1/2 of the duo that has produced the "Fish out of Water" remixes.  That excites me as well.

has the Jack White track up now - his cover of "Love is Blindness".
