I can't say that I've heard every single promo performance of EBW, but I can't place this vocal take. At first I thought it was an isolated vocal from the EMA performance, but  I think I hear some clear differences.

My guess would be it's a new studio vocal based on their recent live performance, though I assume before Bono's cycling accident. I'll be looking for it on Monday.

The alternate version is being made available by various branches of Universal now.  I know of at least two branches that have started to circulate this.  I think it's a new vocal, but based off those performances in October.  He did that ending at the EMA, and also at the Bambi awards if you want to compare.

Wow! It took me a little while to get used to the slower pace Bono brings to the track, but he sings each chorus like it’s the last song he’ll ever sing! I think they should stick with the album track for radio play, but God, what an amazing treat this version is for us fans! Please let this be officially released (and on CD, to boot, would be great)!

They really need to put this out on a CD single. (And not just a promo CD-R.) Wishful thinking, I know.

@Miryclay - that's the alternate version that we are discussing above.  That clip is from the Today FM show, with the DJ talking over the end of the track.  Thanks for posting it.  Will save people going through the entire radio show to get to that piece.

I thought surely they would post something about the new single on U2.com this morning when they announced the additional tour dates. Nothing yet, and no sign of a digital single at any of the usual outlets.

Can anyone clarify this release?

http://www.discogs.com/U2-Every-Breaking-Wave/release/7471092

Also on eBay
http://www.ebay.nl/itm/U2-Every-Breaking-Wave-Promotional-Radio-CD-Universal-Songs-Innocence-Rare-/331655541532?hash=item4d3835f31c

The only versions of EBW I'm aware of are the album version and radio mix available for fanclub members.
Could this be a bootleg release? Notice the spelling errors on the white info sheet.

Both are fake.

Thanks for clearing that up Aaron!
Too bad it's now listed at discogs as part of the official EBW promo's.

As far as I know, an item can only be listed as "unofficial" on Discogs if the person who created the entry lists it as such. Can other users edit the entry after the fact to reflect this?  I'm not sure.

Whatever the case, I wouldn't be surprised if the person who created this as an "official" entry on Discogs is the same person who is trying to sell it on ebay! :(

The white info sheet accompanying the Discogs entry is hilarious.

LOL. Has anyone actually heard those five tracks on the CD? Are they as bootleggy as the press release?  I'm trying to imagine how someone could stretch EBW out to almost 8 minutes in length.

I've heard them.  And they are every bit as bad as the press release.

Legit or fake, some poor soul bought the cd as the eBay auction has ended.
BTW the text on the cd is just as bad (hilarious) as the info sheet!!!
