New Release: Where the Streets Have No Name (High Contrast Remix)

There's a new remix of "Where the Streets Have No Name" that was just released on iTunes.  The remix is called the "High Contrast" mix and the mix is being released as part of the album "Isles of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games". 

The description on iTunes reads "London welcomed the world on July 27, 2012, with the lighting of the Olympic Flame, signalling the official start of the London 2012 Games. Get the music from the Opening Ceremony now, which includes the score (courtesy of artistic director Danny Boyle and music director Underworld) as well as performances from top artists.

The album was released today, July 28, 2012, and is appearing in iTunes outside of the UK.  The copywrite is 2012 Decca Music Group Limited. There are 22 tracks and a digital booklet.  The majority of the tracks appear as "Album Only" tracks which mean they cannot be purchased separate, and you have to purchase the entire album to receive them.  The U2 track is indeed one of these "Album only" tracks.

The remixer on this track is "High Contrast" also known as Lionel Barrett, who is a Welsh DJ and Producer. This is his first known remix of U2. 

An audio CD is expected on August 2, 2012, although inclusion of the U2 track has not been confirmed, a listing of this item is available at amazon.co.uk.

"Two and half months ago I got an incredible phone call. It was from Underworld.  I have been a huge fan of them for many years and more recently have had the honour of being musical collaborator with them. On this occasion, they rang to ask me to get involved on their current, very epic musical mission…the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.
 
I obviously jumped at the chance and moved over to London for the duration, working relentlessly on the part of the show they wanted me to help out on – the Athletes Parade. It was a very specific brief, something as a lone D+B producer I’m not used to doing, but was a wonderful challenge to have. Drum + Bass wasnt really on the cards for this, it was more just my uplifting, melodic vibe that was needed.
 
It’s been an incredible experience working alongside Underworld and their whole team, for which I can never thank them enough. I’ll post a full report next week."

Wasn't overly impressed with the 1:30 sample to drop $20 on the album. I can see it fitting thematically, but the marching sounds are kind of strange on their own.

Oh, my... I see a band on there I walked out on while they were opening for someone haha.

Here's another link to snippets of the whole album on amazon.uk.  Pet Shop Boys already turned "Streets" into a disco stomper, why do it again?  This one sounds more militaristic, though.

Think mine came in today on cd as well.

I did go back and watch the opening ceremonies - wish they'd included Beautiful Day as well.  The song worked much better transitioning into that.
