Identify U22 Tracks - Date and Location.
« on: May 26, 2012, 07:18:39 PM »
There's 22 tracks.  Where did they come from?!  I am hoping to use this thread to identify which recording the tracks actually come from.  Please be clear if you are identifying the track with how you came to the conclusion where they are from.  If you are using the videos on u2.com as your source, please state them to be as such, as these may not be the final audio tracks that we get on the actual CD.

I can say for sure that the mp3 bonus track they released was "Unknown Caller" live from the first show in London, August 14, 2009.  The introduction on the second night was quite different, and it is definitely London - you can hear Bono saying "London" throughout...I have listened to this track vs a bootleg I have from August 14th and they are definitely the same.

"Even Better than the Real Thing" has been identified as being from the May 15, 2011 show in Mexico City by our forum member "u2expert" on another thread.  Has this been listened to for identification?

"One Tree Hill" has been identified as being from the November 26, 2010 show in Auckland NZ by our forum member "Krys" on another thread.  This is a conflict with the 45s snippet used for voting which was labelled "Auckland 2 270811 45s".  Has anyone listened to a bootleg and been able to confirm which night this is actually from?

Yep, it's from 2010-11-26

I listened to the bootlegs when I did the lyrics for the new site.  ;)

The intro speech is identical, as are the lyrics--except for one obvious edit when Bono held up the mic while the crowd sang the first "We run like a river to the sea" then he said, 'thank you'. On the U22 version Bono sings-- You run like a river to the sea / Tears like a river to the sea. If they were releasing a video they'd prob kept the original since it was obviously an emotional part but as a pure audio track it might have sounded odd since the audience wasn't that loud.

Very nice catch.  That wasn't there the last time I looked.  :)

Even Better That the Real Thing - Mexico City, 15th May 2011 - the 45s clip was also from Mexico City
The Fly - East Lansing, 26 June 2011 - the 45s clip was labeled as Nashville
Mysterious Ways - Cape Town, 18 Feb 2011 - the 45s clip was also Cape Town
Magnificent - Zurich, 11 Sep 2010 - the 45s clip was labeled Zurich 1
Until the End of the World - Mexico, 14 May 2011 - the 45s clip was labeled Mexico
I Still Haven't Found - Johannesburg, 13 Feb 2011 - the 45s clip was labeled as Boston 1
Stay - Chicago, 5 July 2011 - the 45s clip was labeled Chicago
One Tree Hill - 26 November 2010 - the 45s clip was labeled Auckland 270811
Beautiful Day - 10 August 2009 - the 45s clip was labeled Zagreb.

So of the initial clips posted for voting, there seems to have been some change in what was released.  "The Fly" as released is East Lansing instead of Nashville.  "I Still Haven't Found" is from Johannesburg instead of Boston.  And it appears they may have switched nights for the source of "One Tree Hill".  Wonder what prompted the changes along the way...and now even more I'm interested in knowing where the rest of the tracks come from...

And sad that "Stay" in Chicago isn't from a show I went to in 2009 and instead was from 2011.  :-)

Just wondering if you could forward that Ticketmaster email my way if you kept it.  Would be interested to see it if it doesn't contain anything personal.  :-)

Just forward it on to aaron (-at-) u2wanderer.org if you would.  :)

I assume it's a tie-in with LiveNation which runs U2.com.  Since TicketMaster knows who bought tickets to 360, they figure some of those people will subscribe to U2.com to get U22 as a souvenir of the 360 tour.

Based on the legalese at the bottom of the e-mail, I got it because apparently I'm subscribed to  "Special Event Related Offers".

It is a pity that they didn't include Scarlet instead of MLK. We already have a live version of MLK.

Yeah, I just got the e-mail.  Like you said, it's probably tied in with LiveNation somehow.
