Download Cards
« on: July 10, 2018, 09:59:29 AM »
I purchased the recently reissued 'Pop', 'Wide Awake in America' & 'All That You Can’t Leave Behind' on vinyl, primarily for the download cards and 2017 remastering. Having these albums in lossless WAV format is great!

Which got me thinking which other releases have come with a download card?

2018-09-28 - The Best of 1990 - 2000
File/Rate: TBD

2018-07-27 - The Best of 1980 - 1990
2018-07-27 - Zooropa
2018-07-27 - Achtung Baby

2018-04-13 - Wide Awake in America

2017-12-01 - Songs of Experience

2017-06-02 - The Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary
Vinyl Super Deluxe Boxset & CD Super Deluxe Boxset
File/Rate: WAV / 44100 Hz, 16-bit
URL: https://redeem.thejoshuatree.com

2013-11-29 - Ordinary Love
File/Rate: MP3 / 44100 Hz 320Kbps
URL: http://www.u2.com/ordinarylovevinyl/ (redirects to http://www.amplified.com)

2011-10-31 - Achtung Baby 20th Anniversary
Uber Deluxe
File/Rate: MP3 / 44100 Hz 320Kbps & WAV / 44100 Hz, 16-bit
URL: http://achtungbabyuberbonus.u2.com (redirects to http://achtung.pushexp.com/home/)
Includes MP3 & WAV download of 'Love is Blindness (Acoustic)' from the film 'From The Sky Down'.

Questions:
a) The 2017 reissued 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' and 'War' vinyl did not come with a download card, correct?
b) Besides 'Ordinary Love' did any other Record Store Day vinyl releases come with a download card?

Cheers,

Both of the albums came with download cards. Both with Wave files to download.

Also don't be sure that the 10-12-2018 date is the final date. I was told "on, or around" for a new issue of Rattle and Hum.

None of the other Record Store Day releases came with a download to my knowledge, but Wide Awake in Europe was digitally streamed on U2.Com.

Is there a way to tell which version of the War and HTDAAB remasters have the download card?  I purchased these when they first came out and neither have the card.

War didn't have the download card when it first came out in 2008.  It wasn't until the 2017 re-release that it got the added download card.  Most stores you'll never be sure of what version you are getting.  But if you order direct from Universal (mine came from Universal UK) you'll usually get the most recent version.

As far as I know the reissue of HTDAAB was supposed to have a download card in each and every copy.  There's been reports that this wasn't the case.  I know mine came with, and again I got it direct from Universal when they went on sale in March 2017.

Am I correct in remembering that the most recent vinyl/WAV release of HTDAAB was technically the original master, but with some minor "tweaks" similar to the 2011 release of Achtung Baby?

Yes.  HTDAAB wasn't remastered and is considered a reissue.  The copy of "War" released at the same time was a reissue of the 2008 remaster as well. Neither of those had current work done in 2017 to them to improve sound.

And both maintain the original copyright dates on the sound recording (2004 & 2008) They update those when they do significant improvements to the sound.
