This release is pretty great. Allows us fans who don't want to drop a G to get access to it. It also makes the album more spread out with different packaging and multiple cover art. Luckily RSD is on a Saturday so no fans are going to miss out because of employment. I also have my eye on the Willie Nelson release which is an incredible album.
No need to drop a thousand dollars on the original 12" either. Only the initial few items went for that price. Over the months since, a couple of sellers on ebay have flooded ebay with copies and it's possible to get them for under $250 now.
Just to be clear - they are different items though. This release may look the same as the Grammy one - but it will contain a second record, and the sleeve will be numbered. Also there's some confusion - the UK RSD site is listing it as a 10-inch vinyl - so maybe there might be other differences.
I prefer the Black Friday event because it is easier to get into my store and get something - although it means taking off from work. Record Store day is such a big event, and is on a Saturday so the lines are long and they start early. Makes it difficult to get some items. At least I know with Black Friday if I take the day off or arrange to go in a bit late, I can usually get there when the store opens and have a pretty good chance. Last time I went looking for something on RSD there were about 140 people lined up in front of me and I just didn't stand a chance...
