Interviewer: Dave Fanning. Interview Edited and Produced
by Ian Wilson. Dave Fanning has a nightly radio show on RTE's Radio Two
(the pop / rock side of Ireland's National Radio.) One of his early favourites
was a young Dublin band called U2. Nowadays everyone has heard of them
and even Dave is quite well known, regularily featuring in the annual reader's
poll of the British rock weekly, The New Musical Express. Dave Fanning's
producer is Ian Wilson, who invariably carries the troubles of the world
on his shoulders. The U2 Talkie is the result of conversations with
the band at the end of February 1987.
Thanks to: Paul Aungier for recording it. Mikam and ASAP for recording
gear. Robbie Wooter and gang for assistance. Cormac Duffy, Mick Wright,
John Doyle, and Tom Gormley for their editing work. RTE Radio for
the use of editing facilities. |
The first interview promo produced for The
Joshua Tree promotional campaign. The interview was with RTE Radio
2 disc jockey Dave Fanning. This release is sometimes referred to
as the "Joshua Tree Interview Album". Some copies of this promo in
cassette form were packaged together with the 1987 U2
Sampler Promo Cassette, as well as a tour program and a promotional
sports bag.
It should be noted that although the track time is shorter for the version
of "Mothers of the Disappeared" on the liner notes, that the actual song
runs longer. It is mixed in with the speech portion prior to song
on this release. The actual end of the speech marks the beginning
of the track timing on this recording, and it is indeed the album version
of the song when both portions are combined, not a separate edit. |
