In September of 2005 Hurricane Katrina swept through New
Orleans devestating the city. As part of the relief efforts a televised
relief effort was done on the MTV networks featuring performances by various
artists. The performances were live on September 10, 2005 and featured
artists such as Trent Reznor, Melissa Etheridge, Rob Thomas and U2.
These performances were later released in the Sony
Connect Music store as part of an album called ReAct Now: Music and
Relief: Responding to Katrina. The U2 track can be purchased
separate from the set. These tracks were released in Sony's propriatary
format, ATRAC3 - similar to an mp3 in compression, but only playable on
Sony's music players and software.
The U2 track is Love and Peace or Else which was performed live during
a dress rehersal for the third leg of the tour. The tour re-opened
two nights later on September 12, 2005, and this was a taste that at least
one song was being performed much the same as on previous legs of the tour.
The cover art is a low resolution image taken from the Sony Connect Music
site.
These tracks were also available from other online music services at
the time of release, including real player's Rhapsody service. |
