Many Concert goers during the Elevation tour came to associate
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band with U2 - it's pretty cool to see
them open up an event like Live 8 with a former Beatle. This was the first
time Paul McCartney played the song live, and it was a definate first for
U2 to perform with a former member of the Beatles. The full band (augmented
by a brass section) backed Paul McCartney as he sang most of the lead vocals
in the song. The Long and Winding Road was performed by Paul McCartney
(without any members of U2) and closed the performance.
Released the day these songs were performed at Live 8, all benefits
of the songs purchased on iTunes will go to support Live 8, the successor
to Live Aid. "It was 20 years ago today..." |
