OTHER NOTES
War was U2's third studio album, and is considered by many to be the first "classic" of U2's career.  It was definitely this album which raised U2's profile around the world, expecially in North America where the band had only limited success prior to this.

The album cover is reminiscent of that used for the Boy album, and Peter Rowan again is featured.  Design of the album cover was by Steve Averill.

War is an album which has been part of MFSL's remastering program.  This program takes the original master recordings, and presses to CD in a remastered form.  The CD's which are pressed features gold instead of aluminum which is said to last longer.  This remastering has resulted in several noticible differences in the MFSL recordings, most noticed here on "Seconds" which is longer and features an extended section of "Soldier Girls" in the center of the song.  Like a Song is also extended. The only other U2 albums to receive the MFSL treatment were The Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree.

Also of interest is the US version of the CD, which includes a small essay about U2 and the album's success in the US.  This version of War lists the track times for the songs and is in complete error.  Two Hearts Beat as One for instance is listed as being 5:00 when in reality it is 4:03 on this pressing as well as on the MFSL version.  These misprinted track times have lead to some confusion.  The track times listed above are the actual track times for each song as read from the actual CDs.  The times listed on the back of this US pressing are listed as follows:

The War album would spawn a very successful world tour, and the fall of 1983 would see the release of Under a Blood Red Sky, a live album which captured songs from several live dates on the tour.

The Argentina release on vinyl was not in a gatefold sleeve, and the lyrics were printed on the back cover.  The first Japan release included a cartoonish lyric insert which did not appear in other world wide releases. In Sweden a very limited number of copies were pressed in red vinyl, possibly as few as 15.
