| October was U2's second full length commercial release.
It was recorded between July and August of 1981, and was released one year
after Boy had been released. October was
a hard release for U2. During the recording sessions of the album,
U2 had visited the Seattle area on tour, and Bono's briefcase was lost.
Inside that briefcase were lyrics to the new songs which Bono had been
working on for months. U2 were suddenly faced with booked studio
time and having no lyrics to record during that time. They were not
in a position to delay recording, and thus went into the studio with some
last minute lyrics, and others were made up on the spot.
The album yielded two commercial singles, and continued the momentum
that U2 were building up, although in general October was considered a
weaker release than Boy by many, and to this day seems to be considered
the same. |
