OTHER NOTES |
Bono and the Edge were approached to write the theme for
the new Bond movie staring the new Bond, Pierce Brosnan. The name
itself comes from the name of author Ian Fleming's home in Jamaica.
Fleming was the author of the Bond series. Bono and the Edge wrote
the tune, but declined to perform it, instead suggesting Tina Turner as
a vocalist for the song. She initially declined to do the song.
In Tina's own words:
"I just couldn't really feel it at the time. Then I got a hand-written
letter from Bono saying, `Tina, trust me, it's rough at the moment, but
it's going to be great.' I had to believe him. We live very near each other
in the south of France, so he and Edge came up and finished it with me.
Nellie Hooper came in with the arrangement. All of a sudden the song became.
It was a matter of communicating and believing in each other. I'm looking
forward to working with them again".
The song was a hit, as was the movie, and the Bond franchise was reborn
for the 90s. The single featured several remixes of the title track.
One mix, the "Club Edit" was called the "David Morales Remix" on some releases. |
