Possibilities for the mutters:

@ 1:52
Shyer side, Try outside, Shy outside, Shy or sigh, Shy and sad

@ 2:42
Is silence too much to be, Is science so much to be, Inside too much to be

@ 2:52
Silence, Science, Inside

The only major changes I hear are:

They're in the desert to dismantle an atomic bomb
I watch them channel hop
to
They're in the desert to dismantle an atomic bomb
I watch 'em shadow box

I’m not used to talking to somebody in their body
Look, there’s somebody in a body, somebody in a body
to
I'm not used to talking to somebody in a body
Somebody in a body
Somebody in a body

I definately agree on the "shadow box" part. good job

Incidentally this is my new favorite song.  Just like Holy Joe was for three years. :-P

Yeah the album is growing on me, but the only songs I was really excited about straight off (not counting Vertigo) were this and Love & Peace or Else.  I think I labeled it as "The best song (not) on the album" when I first heard it.  Catchy yet original.

Any comments on those muttery parts??  I put my favorite choice for each up on the lyrics page for the song:

On the @1:52 mark I would go for "Shyer side" - I don't hear the "out" in outside, but this one is a bit hard.

For the last two parts I would say:

@2:42: Is silence too much to be
@2:52: Silence

@1:52, there is no closure on the final word... which doesn't mean there isn't supposed to be a consonent at the end, but it sounds more like "sigh"  I agree it has a sibilant sound at the beginning and am going back to "shy".  I don't really hear an "out", but an "oh" over "-er" i can easily hear.

As for the rest I agree, but want to clarify the 2:42, i hear "so" over "too" now.  Definately no strong attack on that word.

2:42: Is silence so much to be (agree with Kristian)
2:52: Silen- (truncated? I just don't hear the final S.)

We're reaching a consensus on those parts, how about the talking at the end? I hear:

(How about that?)
(That's pretty cool)

I agree on the first one. I don't hear 'pretty' in the second one, but maybe that's because English is not my mother tongue (see my post in the 'Introductions?' section). ;-) However, I hear that one as "That's real cool" or "That's really cool".

Listening to the Jacknife Lee mix I really hear a "believe" in there.

@2:42: Is silence too much to believe
@2:52: Silence

It might just be the news but I'm hearing the mystery "s" word as Sian.  I'm not putting that in the archive though... it does put the last verse in a different light though - documenting every detail, every conversation & there being no words that can truly capture the situation.

Strangely, my timings are different from yours (I am listening to the Jacknife Lee mix). For what it's worth I cannot  hear "believe" though like you've done here I would drop the question mark after silence (Silence? Uh huh).

To me the song is an example of how easily one may be deceived by one's mind. Every now and again I still hear "all I want is a bed right next to you" (which is what I had heard at first before I had seen any lyrics) when "all I want is to get right next to you" is clearly right...

Ah... those timings were cut pasted from the original song. :p Sorry about that.

His voice drops but there is something after "be"  I'll listen to it again before dropping the question mark - it seems like a little internal question reply to  himself.

I've no clear idea on the meaning. It does not seem to me to be intoned like a question (on either mix) but it's a difficult one to call, certainly without any extra equipment.
