Bono on Michael W. Smith's new Christmas album
« on: August 13, 2014, 01:10:58 PM »
First Michael W. Smith played keyboards on an unreleased song during the Atomic Bomb sessions.

Now, Bono is providing a spoken-word intro to a song on MWS's new Christmas album.

I like how Rolling Stone puts it: "Grammy-winning singer enlists some of country's biggest names--and Bono--for holiday album"   ;D

I think he did keys on "North Star" which we did hear through the 360 tour live...or at least I did.  :-)

The press release said that Bono's part was spoken word, but didn't say that he just performed on the intro to the song.  I'm holding out hope that it's maybe a longer piece set to music composed by Smith.   :)

Just a reminder that this is coming out in a couple of weeks.  September 30th.

I've gotten a bit of additional information, the track that Bono is involved in is called "The Darkest Midnight" and is set to a more traditional sounding Irish music, where Bono reads a portion of the Irish carol "The Darkest Midnight".

The original piece is as follows.  I'm not sure what portion Bono will be reading.

The darkest midnight in December, no snow nor hail nor winter storm
Shall hinder us for to remember, the babe that on this night was born
With shepherds we are come to see this lovely infant's glorious charms
Born of a maid as the prophets said the God of love in Mary's arms.

Have you not heard the sacred story, how man was made those seats to fill
Which the fallen angels lost in glory, through their presumption, pride, and will
They thought us mean for to obtain such glorious seats and crowns in heaven
So through a cheat they go Eve to eat the fruit to be avenged on man.

Ye blessed angels join our voices, let your gilded wings beat fluttering o'er
While every soul set free rejoices and every devil must adore
We'll sing and pray that God always may our friends and family defend
God grant us grace in all our days, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
