Magnificent (Adam K and Soha Radio Mix)

I was born
I was born to be with you
In this space and time
After that
And ever after I haven't had a clue
Only to break rhyme
Such foolishness
Could leave a heart black and blue

Oh…
Oh…
Oh…

Only love
Only love can leave such a mark

But only love
Only love can heal such a scar

I was born
I was born to sing for you
I didn't have a choice
But to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to
I give you back my voice
From the womb
My first cry, it was a joyful noise

Oh…
Oh…
Oh…

Only love
Only love can leave such a mark
But only love
Only love can heal such a scar

Justify till we die, you and I will magnify
Oh-oh-oh, The Magnificent
Magnificent
Oh…

Oh…
Oh…
Oh…

Only love
Only love can leave such a mark
But only love
Only love unites our hearts

Justify till we die, you and I will magnify
Oh-oh-oh, The Magnificent

I've got a bit more order to the remix lyrics. Thanks Brad.  :)

"Falke" is the correct spelling--from his Myspace page.

On a couple remixes it almost sounds like Bono says, "the Magnificence", but I changed all occurrences to "the Magnificent". Iffy.  "Magnificence" is a noun and therefore grammatically correct. "Magnificent" is an adjective, i.e. "The magnificent Jo Whiley", which Bono said after that live performance. One can put a "the" in front of an adjective and make their own noun, however. I'm sure Bono knows what he's doing. Not being sarcastic. I think his song writing this album is extremely well done, "ATM machine" nothwithstanding, which is common usage anyway and never bothered me at all. (lol)

"Justified/justify"..."until/till"--another iffy. I hear this different every time. Makes for a slightly different meaning.

Not lyrics related but the Magnificent basic chord progression--F#m-C#m-A-E-B-Bm is followed most accurately in the Dave Audé Instrumental Remix, when other remixes choose to ignore that nice B-Bm change. Plus Audé does some nice voicings. Great stuff.

I'm warming up to "ATM Machine." My newest peeve is in Winter (I bought the DVD individually on eBay, rather than buy another copy of the album for $90 to $100). The last verse when he says, "to protect the ones;" he never completes the thought. "The ones." The ones who what?

One thing I really like in Winter, though: "summer sang in me / but summer sings in me no more." This is an allusion to a sonnet by Edna St. Vincent Millay:

What lips my lips have kissed, and where, and why,
I have forgotten, and what arms have lain
Under my head till morning; but the rain
Is full of ghosts tonight, that tap and sigh
Upon the glass and listen for reply,
And in my heart there stirs a quiet pain
For unremembered lads that not again
Will turn to me at midnight with a cry.
Thus in winter stands the lonely tree,
Nor knows what birds have vanished one by one,
Yet knows its boughs more silent than before:
I cannot say what loves have come and gone,
I only know that summer sang in me
A little while, that in me sings no more.

Nice one, Zooo. I didn't know there was such a paraphrase there.

Why not copy and paste the Winter part over to the Winter thread. That's a forgotten song for sure. U2.com hasn't even posted the lyrics.

Seems like the band has disowned it. For now at least.

Magnificent (Richard Vission Mix)

I was born
I was born to be with you
In this space and time
After that
And ever after I haven't had a clue
Only to break rhyme
Your white soul
Has left my heart black and blue

Oh…
Oh…

Only love
Only love can leave such a mark

I was born

I didn't have a choice
But to lift you up
And sing whatever song you wanted me to

For the record, they're zeros, not "O"s. Z000 being an amalgam of Zoo and 1000.
