Vertigo remix
« on: March 19, 2007, 02:23:34 PM »
This one should be pretty quick and easy for you folks...thanks in advance for your help!

Does anyone know if this "Close to the Edge" remix that i've been seeing around is official? I read somewhere that it was, but then i read somewhere else that it is not...and the name is a little too cutesy...i thought it might be a 3rd party remix, but then i've seen it presented in several unrelated spots as official

Thanks again for your help!

We had a bit of discussion about that mix when it started making the rounds:

I've heard three separate stories:

It's official, and it's an unreleased promo, 250 copies, etc.  (Really doubt it.)
It's official, but it was shelved/deleted/etc because U2 Inc. were not impressed.  (Possible.)
It's not official; it's just your typical, average 3rd-party remix.  (My guess.)

I agree with the one poster in the thread I mentioned above; anybody who remixes a U2 song with any kind of official sanction would want their name associated with it, even if it turned out that U2 didn't end up using it (e.g. Ferry Corsten's original NYD mix, if I'm not mistaken).

awesome. So, i guess it goes into the "unofficial but worth keeping remixes" folder. Thanks SO SO much.

Yeah, all my sources say unofficial.  If there is an official version it definitely didn't come out in a picture sleeve with photos from the Elevation era.  Probably a remix done for consideration, that didn't get approved...thus Universal being aware of it...but the vinyl that circulated is pretty much confirmed as unofficial...
