iTunes Stores of the World & PJ Harvey
« on: February 21, 2005, 03:25:58 AM »
I popped in the German store just for fun - no U2 on the most popular songs/albums but I saw PJ Harvey as a featured artist.  And while they didn't have the four track The Letter single, they had a single track single called Stone.  Netherlands and Portugal don't have anything besides the albums. Italy has The Letter CD1 single, Spain CD2, France CD2 + the one track Stone  (the US has the b-sides for CD1 & CD2 conveniently in one spot) while Canada has The Letter single but with NO b-sides.  Silly Canucks!

The UK store had the Stone single, but also two You Come Through For Me singles, featuring Stone, Angel, and Who the F*ck (4 track version).  I can browse but can't buy - very annoying as I don't have the habit of searching around for expensive import singles at the moment.  Granted they don't sound that spectacular...

I didn't check the rest as I figured they wouldn't match the UK.  I knew that different stores had different things, but this seems a bit non-intuitive - I mean are all these little things really relevant for marketing to each country, especially since digital downloads are free?  I suppose enough people could listen to the 30 second clips and not buy to drive a negative cost, but that seems rather out there...

Apparently if you get set up an account on iTunes without linking to a credit card and hence a country you can use it to buy songs from international stores. Found this in a forum:

"I got a friend to buy me a UK itunes gift certificate and I use that as well as my US itunes account."

Anyone want to swap gift certificates?
