Lady With The Spinning Head
« on: February 15, 2019, 05:02:16 AM »
Hi all,

Random post, but one that I've been thinking about for a while now.

I recently read that Lady With The Spinning Head led to, or was composed of The Fly, One and Ultraviolet. I tried to find a description (or video) that illustrates how the parts became the sum (or vice versa). I can only hear Ultraviolet in the chorus when I listen to the song - I can't make out any other parts from other songs.

There was at one point a video that did illustrate it, as I've seen it embedded in forums that I've discovered by Googling, but it's been taken off YouTube - does anyone have that video or know where I'd be able to find a description or something similar? It's only a small thing, but I'd be interested in seeing or hearing what I'm missing, for curiosity's sake.

Thank you!
Joe

In U2 by U2 The Edge mentions it went on to be developed into Zoo Station, The Fly and Ultra Violet. He mentioned Zoo Station was a version of it that was taken in a more industrial direction. Haven’t seen the video you refer to sorry...

Is it one of the animated sequences from 'From the Sky Down'?

Not sure what video you're referring to either, but if you listen closely to the guitar outtro at the end of "The Fly" you'll hear parts of it again in the guitar solo/outtro on LWTSH.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Anam, I'll have to rewatch the documentary to find out. I'll do it sometimes this weekend.

Aaron, I'll find it in the book and have a read of it tonight. I thought this was the forum that had the video I was talking about but I might have misinterpreted what the video was about. http://www.u2interference.com/forums/f194/the-musical-journy-of-lady-with-the-spinning-head-205418.html Maybe the video was illustrating something else about the song. Is there some place to hear the Salome tapes?

morgan1098, I can't believe I didn't notice the similarities in The Fly. I'm also noticing it with the drums at the end as well as the guitar parts. Looks like Zoo Station is the one that I can't really detect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFUkV37RLZA is one version of "Take You Down" which is what appears was linked in that forum...there's multiple versions of songs that appear on Salome...if you know the titles usually used, you can find them on YouTube pretty easily in a lot of cases...but I think that one may be the only version of it.

We've got the original "Salome" liner notes that were posted on news groups in the '90s here:
