Slight Difference in Stories for Boys (Three) on Complete U2
« on: November 28, 2004, 03:03:13 AM »
I'm slowly going through The Complete U2, and I've started going through things I only own on vinyl, mainly just to see how much better they sound.

The digital version of Stories for Boys from "Three" is slightly different from my vinyl copy.  Specifically, there is an extra guitar lick and an extra bit of percussion at the very end of the track.

I wonder if this last bit was on the original master and got truncated on the vinyl release?  I wonder why they decided to include it here?

The other two tracks appear to be identical to the vinyl, other than the fact that the grooves are very worn on my vinyl copy. :)

Maybe this is the same version as on Just for Kicks.

You know, I think you may have something there.

Comparing the two tracks side-by-side, the drums are much louder in the mix on The Complete U2 version, and do not fade in, just as described in the discography entry for the Just for Kicks version.  And, again, the ending is "slightly longer."

I don't suppose anyone has a copy of Just for Kicks for comparison?

I have a copy around here somewhere as an mp3 that I will try to compare this with.  Would really be a nice treat to have the Just for Kicks version in better quality than I had before if that is what this is...

Does this apply to both the 128kbs (2004) and the 256kbs (2009) iTunes versions?
Haven't had a chance to compare.

The is also a big difference between Out Of Control from first 12" issue and the Complete U2 / remastered CD ones.

Yes, they did not update that file for the 2009 version.  It's also the version that made it to the remastered Boy collection.

So 'Stories for Boys (Single Version)' from Three (U2 EP) has never been remastered or re-released?

No in both cases it's been the version from "Just for Kicks".
