Holy crap. Thanks for these! It's inevitable that things like this will crop up in a discography as large and unwieldy as U2's, and that's why it's great to have such a knowledgeable group of fans keeping a lookout. Thanks Mate.

Sigh.  I was replying to the post above and accidentally deleted it.  Found an older version and pasted it in but it's missing the Batman tracks.  I'll try to answer these tomorrow but i want to make it clear the site is not finished, and there's a lot of things there that can't be seen yet.  We're still trying to get the new content in place, and you'll see most of the issues in the News section and the catalog piece at the end.

That being said THANK YOU FOR THE LIST.  It'll help, and I'll incorporate these tomorrow.

I would ask that if you are posting things here to also email them to me so I know they are here.  I will be able to respond to things faster if it comes via email.  But feel free to post here too.

As far as I known, only POP 2 could come with transcript.

POP 1 is 20 tracks.  They are at very low volume (about 30% for the peak level) Total length is 26:06.80, it starts right in with Adam speaking.  There is a few seconds of silence at the end of each track. There is no introduction by Dave Fanning - you cannot hear any of his questions on the disc.

POP 2 is 20 tracks. These are much higher in volume (98 - 100% of peak) and the total length is 26:25.87. The CD starts with an introduction by Dave Fanning, and you can hear his questions before the answers.  Track one is Fanning, then the first question, and then Adam answering.  The tracks from there each start with one of Fanning's questions and then the answer.

POP 3 is 21 tracks. These are at a lower volume, but higher than Pop 1 - they range from 35-45% of peak volume.  Total length is 28:05.07.  The CD starts with an introduction by Dave Fanning.  Track one is Fanning, then the first question.  The tracks from there start with the bands answers and then Fanning's next question.

Where did you get this? I'm familiar with the warnerbros.com download, but that was just a single file.

Thanks.  I was looking at the 10 track one with the same catalog number.  :) and now fixed.

I'm good friends with some people over at DC Comics. And a few people who worked on the show are still around.  I sent over the alternate vocal mp3 to see if anyone could identify if that was something actually connected with the show.  And to identify what it was.

As for the rest of the files there's different stories about these. Whether they all came from some acetate that some WB Employee shared on the net and was never believed, or whether some of them were hosted on the WB Site a number of years back and could be accessed by a back door.  It always struck me odd some WB employee ran to share them with a U2 site and never shared them with any comics sites where they would have been just as popular.

Alternate mixes of this song do exist.  Track 10 is the WBKids download we list on the site with the five seconds of silence and the beep at the start edited out.  Track 2 is the main opening to the show.  It was a minute in length and this matches up - and that's the length it is on Season 1 DVDs.  Track 4 is the closing of the show from season 1, played over the final credits, also on the season 1 DVDs.  I think the DVD had a slightly different 30s track for the menus which I bet matches up to the other 30s version.

The two labeled "stings" are just short (less than 10s) and probably used for advertising.  So maybe some of this came from promotional material sent to television for promotion?  The theme was also used in promotion for some products related to the TV series, so maybe that was the source.  Regardless I don't think those came from the released television series.  ie. I don't think they were ripped from the season set.

It is however doubtful these all came from one acetate CD, as the volume differences between tracks are quite noticeable in places.  The last track certainly stands out as much higher in volume than everything else here.  I'm pretty sure that the last track is tacked onto this set.

Just an update on a few of these...

MISSING: The NL CD version in huge cardboard slipcase => http://htaaac.free.fr/pop-pop-nl-limited-edition.html
A friend of mine, Chuck Anderson, used to run the US side of the Zooropean magazine and he was the editor of the US magazine at the time of Pop.  They made some beautiful merchandise of their own to sell including T-Shirts and the like.  To the best of my knowledge this "limited edition" was just packaging made by the group when they sold the Pop album, to try to entice people to buy it through them instead of in shops.  I have never seen any indication that it is official, and that's why it's never been included in the discography.  The magazine was really nice however.

Chuck sadly was in an accident a few years back and never came out of the coma. I am in touch with some of the old gang still so I'll see if i can't find out something more about this pressing, but until someone proves otherwise this one won't be listed.

The Mexican issue have the album version, not the remix.
Site entry for this lists: A 5-inch CD promo was also produced for Mexico. This came in a cardboard sleeve, with a unique front cover, and the lyrics for "Last Night on Earth" on the back sleeve. The promo featured the album version of "Last Night on Earth" and was pressed on July 1, 1997. The front cover is unique featuring images of the band in purple, using a grid pattern similar to the "Pop" album cover. I fixed the issue down in the catalog piece.

Being 'one of the old gang' of Zooropean magazine I can confirm that Chuck is 100% correct on the Dutch Pop album: the Zooropean did this repacking. As repacking was/is not prohibited, they had manufactured a cardboard box & included some reproductions of promo pictures.

If my memory serves me correctly, this version was sold during a 'release party' in Nighttown, Rotterdam.

I bought the Pop CD with the cardboard the day it came out on their U2 fan day in Rotterdam. I can confirm this issue was done by the people of the Zooropean (who owe me still money for 2 subscriptions, one for the Dutch issue and one for the English issue). Hope this helps too.
