New Version of "BREATHE".
« on: February 16, 2013, 04:22:27 PM »
There's a new documentary airing on the History Channel worldwide called "Miracle Rising: South Africa".  At the end of the special over the credits and interupted by several snippets of interviews is a newly released version of Breathe titled the "Alternate Version". You may be interested to watch for it...

Breathe (Alternate Version) - U2
Music by U2. Lyrics by Bono. Produced by Brian Eno and Danny Lanois.  Recorded by Richard Rainey assisted by Chris Heaney. Mixed by Declan Gaffney. Backing vocals by The Edge, Bono, Brian Eno and Danny Lanois. Horn arrangement and keyboards by Declan Gaffney.

Lyrics:
We are people born of sound
The songs are in our eyes
Gonna wear them like a crown
Ohho woah

Walked out into the street
With your arms out...

(fades to interview clip)

All those who stuck together
Fist in the air now know this that
Weilded (??) vision is not a scar on the land
but in my heart of a man
Began as a kiss
Not to resist
A knotted fist...

(fades to interview clip)

...in your heart out
this love cannot be beat
i'm neither down or out
there's nothing you have that i need
i can breathe
breathe

(fades to interview clip)

Free
(???) Free

It's already run internationally.  I've seen it.  The song runs over the end credits. Sounds like a rehersal version of the song, but with some cool elements like some horns.  Gives you an idea where they might have gone with it.  What I transcribed above is pretty much all you get - the song keeps playing as the interview clips play over top.  There is a brief interview with Bono in the special itself.  But if you want to hear the song just go to the last five minutes or so...

I can throw it up on Youtube if no one else does. The HD version doesn't air here until next week, though.

Maybe a full mp3 of this will show up on a web site somewhere, sort of like that strings version of
Walk On from the Burma documentary...

I DVR'd this last night. The credits only run for about 30 seconds on the US version, so I'm not going to bother ripping it.

Apparently the credits are longer on the HD version. It's still mostly interview, though. I posted it on YouTube.

Thanks, Brad.

Here's my take on what Bono sings, using his original written lyrics as a guide (which are in the the Deluxe NLOTH)
