Lemon 10" promo vinyl
« on: November 17, 2004, 11:12:21 AM »
Over the weekend, I was lucky enough to find a copy of the Lemon 10" marble yellow promo vinyl.  I probably overpaid a little for it, but I didn't mind much, as it's one of my favorite collector's items.

Why?

Well, it's a cool color, it's a vinyl with a neat promo-only remix (is that a ukulele I hear in the Serious Def Dub?), and until the recent Vertigo 10" vinyl release, it was the only 10" U2 vinyl around.  (It was, right?  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

I get the impression from various discographies that this was a limited release.  I've only found one site that actually lists a production run number, though (the site claims that only 600 were ever made).

I contacted the site-owner, but he couldn't tell me where he'd found that number.

So I'm trying to verify the 600 number just for my own curiosity, really.  I suppose I could also try the Collect-U2 list, but I thought I'd bug y'all first.

It looks like it's the one listed here:

I'm almost certain there have been other 10" Vinyls (probably mainly promos?) but I'm not sure.  Aaron could answer better if he'd check the forum more regularly. :)

Carl:

Yep, that's indeed the one I meant.  Naturally, I checked the discography here (and searched just about everywhere else I could think of) for more information on a production run number.

As for there being other 10" U2 vinyls...  I checked around, and I suppose there ARE, in fact, a couple of quite rare ones.  Like the An Cat Dubh, Love Rescue Me, and The First Time promo 10" acetates, for example.

Which leads me to another question (big surprise!) - what's the deal with the "acetate" vinyl promos, anyway?  These are simply test pressings, right?

Do I understand correctly that while the 10" Lemon and Vertigo vinyls are true promotional items, the acetates really have no _consumer_ worth?  I'm well aware they have plenty of collector worth, of course.

*pokes at Aaron*

huh?

* goes back to sleep *

seriously, just returning from a vacation in montreal and just getting caught up on the discography for all the new releases.  Give it a month after the album and i'll be back to speed.

The Lemon 10" vinyl seems pretty common to be limited at 600 copies.  You still find them around for reasonable prices.  It was a promo item, so it is limited, but I'm doubtful of the 600 number.

The only two 10" promos are Lemon and the recent Vertigo one.  The others are acetates.  Those are basically just test pressings - check the glossary on the main site for a little more info.  They usually are pretty plain looking with no label or just a hand written one...very rare so some find them highly collectible.
