11 O Clock Tick Tock
« on: November 04, 2009, 11:22:44 PM »
Hey all,
I see on the discography that 11 O Clock Tick Tock had three different studio cuts.  Are these all the same... except for the length... or are these all completely different mixes?  I'm just wondering if I need to chase down all three studio versions.  Thanks!

they are all the same, the one from pride single (it is on the new remaster too) is the full leght with a longer intro, the one from martin hannett compilation has a longer fade out...

Just to clarify, yes, they're all the same track, but the b-side of "Pride" version features a lengthy sustained note as part of its intro that isn't on any other version of the track.  Also, both this version, as well as the one on the Martin Hannett compilation AND HERE IS THE YOUNG MAN, feature a lengthier fade out (appreciated by those who only know the live UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY version) than the original single version.

The track is a early masterpiece. Better than IWF IMHO. It being on both BOY and UF remasters is proper justification because it was never really released 'in proper form' to a mass audience. It baffles my mind how an 18 year old could write such a track. Esp the guitar...

I stand behind that comment 100%. Musically IWF is lame, two chords. Sounds like a 9 year old with ADD created that riff.

Tick Tock has moods and subtexts. Way more advanced musically...

It was advanced enough to perplex Jimmy Page in IT MIGHT GET LOUD...personally, when it comes to rock-and-roll, I'm oftentimes more impressed by someone coming up with a simple, basic, insanely catchy riff that has never been done before than something multi-layered and melodically complex.  Ironically, the former is often much harder to produce...

You are right in that sense. They are supposed to be the anti-operas...

The solo in Tick Tock is also killer. And the last chord whatever the hell that is.

Thanks all for clarifying this for me!  Very helpful.  I also enjoy this song and think it's one of their best early numbers.
