The Wanderer
Take 2

I went out walking
Through streets paved with gold
Lifted some stones, saw the skin and bones
Of a city without a soul
I went out walking
Under an atomic sky
Where the ground won't turn and the rain it burns
Like the tears when I said goodbye
Yeah I went with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering
Wa-wa-wa-wa-wandering
I went drifting
Through the capitals of tin
Where men can't walk or freely talk
And sons turn their fathers in
I stopped outside the church house
Where citizens like to sit
They say they want a kingdom
But they don't want a God in it
I went out riding
Down that old eight lane
I passed by a thousand signs
Looking for my own name
I went with nothing
I thought you'd be there too
Looking for you
Wa-wa-wa-wa-wandering
I went out there
In search of experience
To taste and to touch
And feel as much
As a man can
Before he repents
I went out searching
Looking for one good man
A spirit who would not bend or break
Who would sit at his father's right hand
I went out walking
With my bible in the sun
The word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was hoping I was the one
Now Jesus, don't you wait up
Jesus, I'll be home soon
Yeah I went out to bury my love
You know I’ll be back by noon
Yeah, I left with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
Went looking for you
Wa-wa-wa-wa-wandering
Yeah, I went with nothing
But the thought of you
I went wandering
Wa-wa-wa-wa-wandering
Ah-hoo
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Ah-hoo
Ha-ah-ah
Ah-hoo
Ha-ah-ah

Bono:
So that was the…the, the sorta wide shot, is that right?
That was a close up.
Oh I didn’t know that was it, I thought, I thought, eh, Steve said it was a wide shot, the first one.
That was a tight one there? Cos I wasn’t thinking I thought it was a wide shot so I was just looking around and stuff.
Edge:
I might have played okay.
Bono:
Okay…so Edge in that last verse, um, um, maybe, we...on the, on the autocue let’s change the verses to “Jesus don’t you wake up, Jesus, uhm, I’ll be home soon… I went out to bury my love…change it to “I went out to bury my loveâ€â€¦uhm…â€You know I’ll be back by noonâ€â€¦.
…“I promise I’ll be back by noonâ€
Edge:
How about, “She said she’d be back by noonâ€
Bono:
No, it’s cause , uh, you gotta go with this very methodical…(discussion gets too low to hear but Bono seems to be convincing Edge his change is best)
Bono:
Okay we’re just gonna put in those lyrics really quickly. Is that an easy one to put in?
Ah-ah-um, just so that you know, I was looking for the, the, not the guitar to be turned up but more, to give it a little more weight, the sound. So you can take the guitar down a little bit in my ears.
Voice:
Uh-huh, okay, I was thinking…(?)
Bono:
“I went out to bury my love. I promise I’ll be back…â€
(Whispering to himself as he scans autocue)—Jesus don’t you wake up, Jesus I’ll be home…
(To autocue person) I’ve gone out, don’t, don’t worry, eh, but I’ve gone actually do it there…eh…yep…okay
Alright, ready to go
Okay
Edge:
singing “Ah-hahâ€
Bono:
Okay it’s purty. C’mon now. Somebody give a big signal when we’re ready.
We’re ready, tape is rolling, Terry-world is go.
