A while back there was a Bruce Cockburn documentary shown on Vision TV - and it opened with Bono performing Cockburns lyrics to "If I Had a Rocket Launcher". It appeared from Bono's outfit that it probably was done in and around 1999. He is not singing. He is just speaking the words to the song, but it is a performance of the whole song, with some commentary after. That clip appeared on TV a little over a year ago now I guess.
Last night shopping at Wal-Mart I spotted the documentary for sale on DVD for $11. I bought it, and have checked out the first few minutes to confirm that the Bono piece is still present, and it does open the DVD. It does.
http://brucecockburn.com/bruce-cockburn-pacing-the-cage-dvd-pre-order-now-online/ is a media release about the DVD. Not sure how I bought it last night, it says it was being released today. Hehe. Ahead of the curve I guess.
"Pacing the Cage is a documentary that features Canadian singer/songwriter/activist, Bruce Cockburn reflecting on his life and his career. The documentary features appearances by songwriters Jackson Browne, Sylvia Tyson, Bono, Sarah Harmer, Colin Linden, best selling authors Michael Ondaatje, William Young, Lt. Gen Romeo Dallaire and Bernie Finkelstein"
For those who don't know, Cockburn is quoted on Rattle and Hum in the line "going to kick at the darkness until it bleeds daylight".
