Discography & Releases / Re: 2022 U2.com subscription gift Achtung Baby 30 Live

Despite being listed on U2gigs (which maybe sourced the Pimm book) as a full performance, it appears Bono flubs the lyrics and combines the second and third verses, and it's still just Bono.  All that said, hearing one of the two lost performances of "So Cruel" - in amazing quality no less - is quite the treat.

Also makes you wonder how many full shows they have in the vaults that they could release.

I have not received my CD's yet.  At present, members can download 6 of the tracks from u2.com, but "So Cruel" is not one of them (yet).

Now we know that the September 9, 1992 live performance [only Bono] of So Cruel will be on the Achtung Baby 30 Live CD.  I still have not yet decided to start a new subscription.  If you paid for the 2022 U2.com subscription, have you received the CD yet?

Discography & Releases / Bono's book Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story
« Last post by dagobah on October 22, 2022, 10:52:59 PM »
Concerning the October 22, 2022 news article [on U2songs.com] titled Songs of Surrender Preview Available November 1

The first paragraph discusses what the audiobook includes and I understand that the audiobook will be narrated by Bono.  But I just want to confirm . . . . . does the audiobook have Bono reading his entire book [titled Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story] along with all those other things that are mentioned?

On a separate note, I just looked at the Wikipedia page for Bono.  I was surprised to discover that his Wikipedia page does not have one mention of his book.  The Wikipedia page says it was last edited on October 19, 2022.  I don’t know how to edit Wikipedia . . . . . I’m out-of-the-loop on that kind of Internet stuff.  Having said that . . . . . . with the Wikipedia page being edited as recently as October 19 . . . . . I think it’s weird that someone has not added a mention of Bono’s book.

Discography & Releases / 2022 U2.com subscription gift Achtung Baby 30 Live

As Aaron mentioned on u2songs.com . . . . . of all the tracks on Achtung Baby . . . . . the track So Cruel has been played live the least number of times.  I wonder if a "full song" live version of So Cruel will be on the Achtung Baby 30 Live CD Set.  I hope so.

Discography & Releases / Re: SOE Additional Non-Album "Official" Tracks/Videos

I decided to post in this forum thread rather than start a new thread.
Question #1  The U2 YouTube channel has a video of Bono and Edge performing a unique version of Sunday Bloody Sunday and the video is titled Bono & The Edge - Sunday Bloody Sunday - January 30 2022.  I can extract the audio from the YouTube video but before I do that . . . . . does anyone know if U2 will be releasing it as an audio file that can be purchased?

Question #2  Concerning the Climb With Charlie Campaign and the Crazy Mountain mix of I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight . . . . . does anyone know if U2 will be releasing the mix as an audio file that can be purchased?

Neither of these are planned for release that I'm aware of. The second is a 1-minute mix of the song taken from the album version, done specifically for the ad campaign and isn't even a full song. The other was a performance to mark the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday massacre, and if they were going to release it, I would have expected it to have been done already.

Discography & Releases / Re: Will There Ever Be DE's or SDE's of R&H or Pop?

I don't know about Canada or Europe . . . . . but in the U.S., a 25th anniversary seems more relevant.  To me, a 30th anniversary sounds stupid.  Looking at the pattern, I wonder if they will release . . . . . . in 2024 . . . . . a 20th anniversary edition of How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.

My guess is they aren't trying to celebrate any particular anniversary. Likely has more to do with what their work schedule is like and how they can promote it. For example when they did the release of Boy/October/War during the Vertigo tour they routinely played those songs as part of the setlist. That one also saw several other artists doing covers of those early U2 songs. Do you think it was coincidence that in 2009 they do an anniversary release of The Unforgettable Fire and on the 360 tour play a couple songs from the album every night? Then in 2011 when they come back for a second round of 360 it is basically and AB tour with I think sometimes more AB songs played than NLOTH. Coincidence again that they released the AB 20th Anniversary packages? For TJT they just plain created a whole tour for the album. For ATYCLB they obviously couldn't tour so it fit a space of putting something out there in an otherwise dead zone. Likely just a project to work on while everybody was taking a COVID vacation and stepping back from touring for a few years.

From what I understand they won't touch Rattle and Hum unless Paramount is on board. There's too much risk in doing anything with it if Paramount wants to get pissy.

Pop? While I'd love to see it I've been told not to hold my breath. That it's so far down on the list of things they'd consider that it's probably never going to happen.
I'm not too upset about the Rattle And Hum situation . . . . . . but I am pretty disappointed about the Pop situation.  If a 25th Anniversary Edition of Pop were being released in 2022, we would know by now.

The "anniversary" releases are all over the place:
The Unforgettable Fire - 25th
The Joshua Tree - 20th and 30th
Achtung Baby - 20th and 30th
All That You Can't Leave Behind - 20th
