Right now it appears the instant downloads ARE NOT working.  They lead you to a page which states:

"U2com8 U22 Downloads plus Bonus track. testing digital product message"

There is a button to press to submit your order number and download code, but they just lead you in a circle.  The downloads aren't working and I have confirmed this with Fanfire.com.  They are aware of the issue, and i'm waiting to hear back from them as to when I can download the first two tracks.

Note: If you are having trouble, do not copy your link and send it to internet forums etc.  You should contact FanFire directly.  The link you are sent in your email does contain your order number and your confirmation code / download key.  If you share this information you provide others a means to access your download.  The information fanfire gives for contact is as follows:

"We are here to help! The best way to contact us is to use the form below. You can also call our Customer Service24/7 at 1-800-767-7160. From outside the U.S. use +434-244-7300."

The first two downloads offered are to be: "No Line on the Horizon" and "Spanish Eyes" - and the announcement mentions these are not on "U22" nor are they on "Edge's Picks" which i assume is the title of the new CD included with the gift.

The announcement page includes a video of "Electrical Storm (Live from Milan)" and the video is branded "From the Ground Up U2.com Music Edition", which makes me guess that it is one of the 15 tracks on the CD that is being given away with the book.

I'm still not able to download the two new tracks.  I've notified the U2.com mods (they said they are working on it) as well as Fanfire (also working on it).  I will update here when it is available.

Get on Your Boots is another track on "Edge's picks".

They have just published a longer story on the new subscription package and it ends with a 45-second link of "GOYB - Edge's Picks".

The downloads are working now.  You cannot see them at the link they emailed out.  That link takes you to the U22 tracks (the twelve made available in May) if you resubscribed at the higher rate.

The downloads can be viewed by going to u2.com.  Log in to your account. When you are in choose profile at the top right, and you should see them there.  There are two tracks, "No Line on the Horizon" and "Spanish Eyes".  Both are 320kbps.  Both are labeled as being from the album "FROM THE GROUND UP:  Edge's Picks From U2360°". Neither is marked for location that they were recorded, although it's probably pretty safe to say "Spanish Eyes" is from 2010-09-26 in San Sebastien, Spain, since it was the only place that song was played.

Holy cow.  Once again, this is pretty awesome and the second year in a row that the U2 gift is actually worth getting.

I notice the Sydney concert is now dubbed "Zoo2 Live."  I wonder if it will have different packaging than the original fan club release.  The $85 isn't bad considering all the stuff you get.  I'm sure there are quite a few current Fan Club members who never got the Sydney concert.  I'd be one of them if I hadn't gotten Zoo TV through a trade on this forum...  :)

From the picture it looks the same. I think they are just trying to get rid of old stock.

Yeah, after I wrote that I looked on the web site and it looks the same.  I'm surprised there is old stock of this still sitting around, and that it has actually taken them this long to figure out a way to unload it.  Still, it's a pretty awesome bonus.

I keep trying to renew but I constantly get a message that says "Please update your e-mail address" even though the e-mail field is already filled in.  I'm guessing it's just a glitch due to heavy traffic.

It was actually referred to as "Zoo2 Live" when it was first announced as well.  It's just the same gift - extras they are getting rid of - from the looks of it.  So the additional $35 gets you "U22" and "Zoo TV Live" which is pretty cool if you don't have those previous gifts...

I am entertained (but also annoyed) at how quickly U2.com can contradict itself.  If this website was a person, it could run for office (ha!).

Really though, I (like all of you I'm sure) do hope that these two downloads are truly just bonuses and that there are 15 other tracks we'll be receiving, not 13.

This seems like a great package, again showing U2.com's  learning from the years on end of gifting out mostly previously released material following but complaints.

They are labeled with that title, but they aren't showing a track number or anything, and they've been pretty clear throughout that these two songs are bonus tracks. They've also said "Unknown Caller" remains a bonus track, not on either CD.

Twenty-four tracks didn't make the U22 CD, three of them have been released as bonus tracks:
No Line On the Horizon
Unknown Caller
Spanish Eyes

That leaves the following 21 unreleased at this point:
40
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Remix)
Vertigo
I Will Follow
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Pride (In the Name of Love)
New Year’s Day
Breathe
Electrical Storm
Miss Sarajevo
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
In A Little While
Get On Your Boots
Mothers Of The Disappeared
Desire
Return Of The Stingray Guitar
Your Blue Room
Party Girl
Angel Of Harlem
Scarlet

Wonder if Edge picked from among those songs or if he was able to pick from any songs played on the tour?  It certainly seems like Electrical Storm and Get on Your Boots will be making this compilation from the promotional videos U2 is including advertising this compilation.

I'm guessing "Edge's Picks" will be selected only from those 21 songs.

Then next year, the remaining six tracks will get released as "Larry's Losers."
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.

Sadly the songs I want to see the most add up to six.  LOL.

"40" (Live from Moncton)
Mothers of the Disappeared (Live from Istanbul)
Your Blue Room
Party Girl
Return of the Stingray Guitar
I'll Go Crazy.

There you have it.  The six songs I really really want.  Wanna bet they don't make it?  LOL.

I agree, Aaron, with those choices.  I'd also like to see:
-Breathe
-Electrical Storm
-Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
-Party Girl
-Scarlet

Not necessarily because I like them, but more because it'd be nice to have Breathe, Electrical Storm, and Scarlet officially on a CD, Party Girl because it hasn't been released live since 1983, and HMTMKMKM because I like the studio version a lot (try and make sense of that).
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.

Having not so much to do at work today, I decided to imagine what could be on Edge's Picks. As I had done with U22, I tried to arrange a mini-concert with a fairly regular U2 360° setlist and not just a collection of songs that would not stand altogether in a U2 concert. That's what I came up with:

Breathe/Get On Your Boots/I Will Follow/New Year’s Day/Stuck in a Moment/Electrical Storm/Pride (In the Name of Love)/In a Little While/Miss Sarajevo/Vertigo/I’ll Go Crazy/Sunday Bloody Sunday/Mothers of the Disappeared/Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me/40.

It's a pity they will not include NLOTH or Unknown Caller on this compilation.

The article at U2.com now lists New Year's day as a track... so that's three we know...
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.
Post by: Aaron on November 15, 2012, 07:44:02 AM
And just an update on the 3 45-second clips that U2.com posted from the CD.  These three tracks are all 45s in length, and none of them are the same 45s that were posted from the U22 voting tracks...so these were newly made, not just taken from those original 45s voting clips posted over a year ago now...

News!!!

"We also hear that each song on Edge's Picks has previously been released as a single or album track.

And (drum roll...) today we can reveal that the CD opens with Breathe...  and closes with "40"."

Means: No stingray guitar...; now really hope for it as an extra download

Looks like the picks contain even HMTMKMKM (see the label-photo at the startside of u2.com, the line above the short "40")
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.

So these are the tracks unreleased from the 40-odd songs available to be picked for U22.

1. 40
2. I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Remix)
3. Vertigo
4. I Will Follow
5. Sunday Bloody Sunday
6. Pride (In the Name of Love)
7. New Year’s Day
8. Breathe
9. Electrical Storm
10. Miss Sarajevo
11. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
12. Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
13. In A Little While
14. Get On Your Boots
15. Mothers Of The Disappeared
16. Desire
17. Return Of The Stingray Guitar
18. Your Blue Room
19. Party Girl
20. Angel Of Harlem
21. Scarlet

The strikethroughs we know are not included because they weren't released as singles. The bold we know are included. That leaves a total of 16 possible songs on the 15 track CD. Personally, I think the one that will miss out is Your Blue Room, being that is was from Passengers, even though it was unique for being sung with the guy from the International Space Station. But also because the other songs all look like they'd be more of a travesty for being left out. Then again, who knows, maybe they will release some of the same songs from U22 but they're from different dates so they're technically not the ones on U22...

On November 30 of last year (2011), I subscribed to U2.com to get the U22 2-CD Set, which I received in June 2012.  I just tried to renew my U2.com subscription for $40 in order to get the Edge’s Picks 15-track CD and bonus downloads.  Here is what has happened so far (step-by-step):

U2.com sent me an email about the new U2.com subscription offer
In that email, I clicked on resubscribe
I was taken to a new Internet browser screen with U2.com
After signing-in to U2.com, I was taken to a RENEW screen
I clicked on RENEW YOUR PAID SUBSCRIPTION NOW!
I was taken to a personal info update screen
My personal info was correct; there was nothing to update
I clicked on UPDATE + RENEW YOUR PAID SUBSCRIPTION
I was taken to fanfire.com
I clicked on U2 in the list of artists on the left side
I was taken to the U2.COM SHOP screen on fanfire.com

The screen gives info about the new U2.com subscription offer, but there are no items in my shopping cart.  The items on the left side of screen include Tour Collection, Classic Collection, Clothing, Lithographs, etc.  But there’s nothing on the screen to click on for subscription renewal.  I used the search feature to search for subscription; their results include a gift subscription, not a subscription renewal.

What am I supposed to do at this point?

I believe that you have erred.  The information on U2.com says, "We also hear that each song on Edge's Picks has previously been released as a single or album track."  I therefore think that all but Stingray are possible here as they were album tracks.

Oh right, I must have completely glazed over the last part of that sentence. Then it's really only Stingray that wasn't released as a single or album track out of all the 40ish songs from the U22 subscription. Doesn't much narrow down the list of possible tracks on Edge's Picks. But I'm glad there's still some mystery about what he chose.

I would suggest this.

Go to u2.com
Login.
Go to "Account Info"
Click on "If you wish to renew your subscription, click here."
That should allow you to pick between the $40 option and the $75 option.  (The $40 option does not include last years U22 gift, and the U2 Zoo TV Live gift from a few years back)
Update your info or choose to continue.
That takes me to a shopping cart which has all of my stuff in it.

That's such an odd statement.  If it means every song was on an album or a single then it just rules out "Stingray" (boo!) If it means that every song was an album track, or was released as a single, it would also rule out "Party Girl" as it was the b-side to a single, and Under a Blood Red Sky isn't a traditional album.  Bad grammer here leaves the whole thing questionable.  If it was just the first all they'd have to say is "Every track has been released before" and you wouldn't have to comment on this single / album nonsense.  That makes me think they were ruling out "Party Girl" and "Stingray".

I added in the original track comments from the voting tracks that were up.  Might give some insight into where they came from.  Although we saw on U22 that they didn't necessarily use the same track that was available to vote on (ISHFWILF was a different version than voted on.):

Definitely on CD:Breathe (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1 310809')
New Year’s Day (Original voting track labeled 'Dublin 3 250811')
Electrical Storm (Live from Milan) (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Get On Your Boots (Live from Boston) (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Boston')
40 (Live from Moncton) (Original voting track labeled 'DG LDN Mix 2')

Maybe on CD:I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Remix) (Original labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Vertigo (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Boston')
I Will Follow (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Brussels RC 1')
Sunday Bloody Sunday (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Pride (In the Name of Love) (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Gelsenkirchen')
Miss Sarajevo (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Buenos Aires 1')
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Santiago')
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Sheffield Recall')
In A Little While (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Mothers Of The Disappeared (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Istanbul 290811')
Desire (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 2 050809')
Your Blue Room (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ New York')
Angel Of Harlem (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 2')
Scarlet (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Melbourne 1')

Not on CD:
No Line on the Horizon (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Sheffield')
Unknown Caller (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Spanish Eyes (Original voting track labeled 'San Sebastien')
Party Girl (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Return Of The Stingray Guitar (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Vienna')

(that's if my Party Girl logic is right.  Now if he said "U2 album" or released as a single, that would rule out "Your Blue Room" as well, but not "Miss sarajevo" as Passengers wasn't a U2 album.

But Miss Sarajevo was also released on a Passengers album and a Passengers single. Unless you are referring to it being on the Best Of album. Yeah it is poor writing. But it can also be viewed as clever in a way because it's generating all this wonderment. And their post was obviously intended to get us talking and wondering.

OK, Aaron, I finally had some free time this afternoon to deal with this again.  I followed your suggestion and it appears to have worked.  Thanks so much for your help.  For the past 2 weeks, everyone has been discussing the bonus downloads and here I was all alone . . . . . . unable to renew my subscription.  I was pretty frustrated, but thanks to you, Aaron, I now appear to be on the same page with the others.  I received an email confirming my order so now I will figure out what's up with the first 2 bonus downloads.

Aaron, I see above that you wrote DG HQ Sheffield for the No Line On The Horizon bonus download.  So, have you or has anyone else been able to confirm the track was from Sheffield, England, at the August 20, 2009 concert?

OK, I just checked my credit card online account and I already see the $40 charge (for renewing my U2.com subscription one hour ago).  From reading all the posts here and on the forum on atU2.com, I don't remember reading anything about an estimated date for shipping the 15-track Edge's Picks CD.  Are you guys thinking that we probably won't receive it until sometime in 2013?

I'm not concerned about when the From The Ground Up book ships . . . . . . although, I wonder if the book will be shipped in the same package as the 15-track Egde's Picks CD . . . . .

Yep, it is. I checked it against a very fine multi-cam DVD with perfect audio (better sound than the U2.com DL, lol) and it's the same version. There's a few little quirks in Bono's singing which match and the lyrics are exactly the same.

They've said that the "Musical Edition" has a slip cover, that contains a pocket to hold the CD, so I'm assuming the book and CD will ship at the same time.  I'm guessing early next year.

My one annoyance with these latest two packages is the insertion of the CDs in a pocket instead of including a separate CD case.  It's a strategy I just don't understand.  They did it with U218 Deluxe and HTDAAB Deluxe as well.

George, I agree.  To deal with this situation, I'll do the same thing that I did with the 10 discs in my Achtung Baby Deluxe Edition and the 2 discs in my U22 CD Set . . . . . I will place the Edge's Picks CD into a standard jewel case and use Microsoft WORD to create my own CD case insert.  It will be just white paper with black ink, but it works for me.  Then I can place the jewel case with my other U2 jewel cases on the CD shelf.

A new email sent today by U2.com has just revealed that Vertigo is also included on Edge's Picks.

So, we have six tracks announced so far: Breathe, Get On Your Boots, New Year's Day, Electrical Storm, Vertigo and 40.

The same e-mail says that if you buy a gift subscription for someone, it will ship in time for the holidays.  Is it possible we'll actually get the subscriber gift before the end of the year????

U2's facebook account just posted a video of "New Year's Day" performed live from Dublin, and it's labelled as being from the annual subscription gift.  So that's another location confirmed. We already knew the track would be on the release. Reposting my previous notes on what we know / don't know...

Definitely on CD:
Breathe (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1 310809')
New Year’s Day (Original voting track labeled 'Dublin 3 250811') - confirmed to be Dublin from video
Electrical Storm (Live from Milan) (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1') - confirmed to be Milan from video
Vertigo (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Boston')
Get On Your Boots (Live from Boston) (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Boston') - confirmed to be Boston from video
40 (Live from Moncton) (Original voting track labeled 'DG LDN Mix 2') - has to be Moncton only show played.

Maybe on CD: (3 tracks won't make it.)
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Remix) (Original labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Your Blue Room (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ New York')
Angel Of Harlem (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 2')
Scarlet (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Melbourne 1')

Not on CD:
No Line on the Horizon (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Sheffield') (taken from Sheffield 8/20/2009 performance.)
Unknown Caller (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1') (taken from London 8/14 & 8/15 performances and edited together.)
Spanish Eyes (Original voting track labeled 'San Sebastien') (taken from San Sebastian 09/2010 performance.)
Desire (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 2 050809') (take from Perth 12/19/2010 performance.)
Party Girl (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Return Of The Stingray Guitar (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Vienna')

(that's if my Party Girl logic from before is right.)

I updated my list above.  As for where Desire is from...

I listened to the track and there`s no sign of any snippets.  It was only played a handful of time without snippets.  (Mostly Michael Jackson).

Probably can be narrowed down to:

Dublin, July 24, 2009
Perth, December 19, 2010
Mexico City, May 14, 2011

One for each year to check out if someone wants to dig further.  The other performances on this tour all had noticible snippets which should still be a part of the song...so it rules those out i think...I could be wrong...

The fact the original voting track was tagged with a `2009`in the title, I`m thinking Dublin is the most likely suspect.

Just downloaded Desire from U2.com

Hmm . . . . . let’s see here . . . . . I bought an official U2 release [from the U2 iTunes digital box set] of Desire from the December 31, 1989 U2 concert in Dublin, Ireland.  That performance is similar to the album version.

I also have an official U2 release [from the Go Home From Slane Castle Ireland fan club 2-CD Set] of Desire from the September 1, 2001 U2 concert in Meath, Ireland.  That performance is an acoustic version.  Oops . . . . I just checked it . . . . . it's not acoustic.  I don't know how to describe it, actually.  But I feel it's different from the album version.

Now I have a third performance of Desire.  I imagine there are many other U2 fans who have the same previous versions that I have.  I can't be the only fan who would rather have an official U2 release of a live performance of:
Mothers Of The Disappeared
Your Blue Room
Scarlet
or
In A Little While

Maybe next time . . . .

I'm pretty sure Desire is from Perth, December 19, 2010. The only other 2 candidates without snippets, as Aaron pointed out, are ruled out because - Dublin, Bono has a dedication at the beginning and Mexico --has a bunch of Bono comments during the song. The clincher is the 'I'm like a needle and spoon" line when Bono makes 'needle' a 3-syllable word, which is the same in Perth and the bonus track. Also another unique spot where they match up is the start of 'Burning' where Bono comes in a shade early before Edge.

You can check for yourself against the YTs online...

In Aaron's post above, he used the date - Perth, December 18, 2010
In slaneman's post above, he used the date - Perth, December 19, 2010

According to Wikipedia, U2 played both nights in Perth.

So, can we confirm if it's the 18th or the 19th?

Yup. Only played on one occasion in Perth.  Sorry.  My fat fingers got the date wrong.  :)

As to your point about yet another version of "Desire"?  Well I'm happy that it's not one of the versions coming on the CD.  That leaves room on the CD for one of those other tracks you are hoping for.  I'm rooting for "Mothers of the Disappeared".  That was an amazing night in Istanbul.  Hearing that song was something I was not expecting, and it really blew me away.  I'd love to see it get included in the CD.  "Your Blue Room" has always been a favorite of mine and I loved it live.  I'd be happy for it to make the cut.  The only one I don't see making it is "Scarlet" as it would be separated from "Walk On" and I'm not sure it would really make sense without.  I could live if that one doesn't make the cd.

I could also live without "Stuck", "Pride", "Sunday Bloody Sunday" or "Miss Saravjevo".  They just seem to show up on everything in the last decade...

Your Blue Room (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ New York')
Angel Of Harlem (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 2')
Scarlet (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Melbourne 1')

I would hope not to see the following:
· I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
· I Will Follow
· Sunday Bloody Sunday
· Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
· In A Little While

We have already heard/seen the "360° live" versions of these, so it would be nice if those are omitted.

I took a look at u2gigs.com and noticed that U2 played 53 original songs on the 360° tour.  Of these, 40 have already been (or will be for sure on Edge's Picks) released (I'm counting I Will Follow from Glastonbury).

The only original songs performed so far and still not released, or known to be coming are (times performed are in parentheses):
· Return Of The Stingray Guitar (33 times)
· North Star (15 times)
· Glastonbury (7 times)
· Every Breaking Wave (3 times)
· Boy Falls From The Sky (1 time)
· Miss Sarajevo (66 times)
· Your Blue Room (7 times)
· Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (46 times)
· Angel Of Harlem (8 times)
· Mothers Of The Disappeared (3 times)
· Party Girl (2 times)
· Scarlet (44 times)

This doesn't really mean anything except that there's not a lot out there to choose from, especially seeing as 5 of these 13 are new tracks that we're almost certainly not going to get on the CD.  Will the remaining 8 tracks that haven't been released yet in their "360° live" versions be among the 9 as-of-yet unknown tracks on Edge's Picks?  I hope so (not because I need yet another live version of Pride, but because I'd rather have that than a third version of Crazy from the same tour).

So I'd just like to pass on that I have received my copies of U22 and Zoo2 Live in the mail as part of the full resubscribing for the new Edge's Picks CD. Being that I'm in Australia, I figured I wouldn't be the first to get this, so I wanted to ask if this had happened to others or if I should be worried that I have received this without the new Edge's Picks as some sort of mistake. Have they started mailing out the new one and would it be normal to be sent separately to these two bonuses?

Some folks on the Interference forum from the US, EU and Australia have received copies of U22 and Zoo TV as well.  My guess is that the Edge's Picks CD and book are still in production, and that's why it hasn't shipped yet.  Whereas with Zoo TV and U22, those have obviously been sitting in a warehouse somewhere for a while.  Hopefully the new stuff will ship soon!

:: I was in this show, MEX CITY II (May 14th) and have seen a lot of videos of that performance  (obviously)... but, about what you say, I hear no Bono comments during the song, but saying 'Burning' pointing to The Edge, and then 'Alright, hands in the air' . It was a clean version IMO, is not the download one though.

This was the first time I saw them play 'Desire' as I last time performed in Mexico was in December 3rd  1997 and I was in attend to the 1rst show December 2nd (my first U2 show) and they just played SATS on the acoustic section, so I DESERVED that Full-Desire version!  ;D

But really interesting to me is the fact that it's not the performance from Boston that was available in the old voting clips.  The video that they posted at least is from Perth.

This happened with "U22" as well.  "I Still Haven't Found" was originally listed as being from Boston in the voting clips, but the version that appeared on CD was from one of the South African shows. Wonder if there's something about that Boston recording they weren't happy with...although it appears "Boots" is from Boston...

From the Gelsenkirchen boot, it sound like Bono yells "Here we go," right at the intro, which I don't hear on this download. Also, "April 4" is cut short in the download and Bono holds the note longer in the bootleg, so I think this is a different performance.
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.
Post by: slaneman on December 13, 2012, 01:19:32 AM
My vote is for Gelsenkirchen, though I don't have a good recording to judge, just those Youtubes.   :-\

He clearly swallows 'early ???? April 4' on the mp3--don't know what he says just before April 4. lol...but that sounds similar to what I can make out on the videos.

They did cut out Bono saying, I think, 'pump it up' at the beginning but otherwise it sounds like the same vocals. There's a few places that seem to match up. He rushes 'one man he resist' a bit which I seem to hear in the videos, also a little vocal trill on 'life' ==they took your 'life'. But the clincher seems to me to be the ending 'oh-oh-oh-oh' part when the song has ended and Bono continues doing them with the crowd.

Need a better recording to say 100%.

Internet consensus seems to be Gelsenkirchen. I wonder why they chose to edit out whatever Bono yells at the intro?

Recieved my U22 / Zoo TV set that I ordered.  No sign of "From the Ground Up" / Edges Picks yet.

My package arrive split open at the seams. One disc missing from U22.  Both discs of Zoo TV missing, although the outer sleeve was there so I know I got one.  The boxes they are using are perforated at the edges and just shaking U22 around i managed to get the other side of the package to pop right open...so i don't think it was tampered with.

Did some investigation on twitter and found at least five reports of similar condition sets, some with discs missing some without anything missing but split open on arrival.  I would suggest anyone who went for the $75 package (I did so I'd have the extras to give away) check their package upon reciept, and document any damage to it before opening.  And check to make sure all the contents are there when you open it.

It's always a disappointment with these jokers. :(

Brad . . . . so let me try to understand your intentions concerning the info in the above post.  When you receive the Edge's Picks CD:
-  you will import the tracks to your iTunes library
-  the little "Artwork" image for each track will say "No Artwork Available"
-  then you will copy and paste the image (like the one above) to the little "Artwork" tab screen for those tracks
-  thus, each track will finally have the image (like the one above)

Yeah it looks like it will resemble what Hasta La Vista Baby! did with the Popmart setlist. Except this one won't show off the Horizon songs the way Hasta did of Pop. My guess is:

Breathe (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1 310809')
I Will Follow (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Brussels RC 1')
Get On Your Boots (Live from Boston) (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Boston') - confirmed to be Boston from video

Electrical Storm (Live from Milan) (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1') - confirmed to be Milan from video
In A Little While (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Miss Sarajevo (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Buenos Aires 1')
Angel Of Harlem (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 2')
Vertigo (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Boston') (confirmed by video to be Perth)
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Remix) (Original labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Sunday Bloody Sunday (Original voting track labeled 'DG AC Mix 1')
Mothers Of The Disappeared (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Istanbul 290811')
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me (Original voting track labeled 'DG HQ Santiago')
40 (Live from Moncton) (Original voting track labeled 'DG LDN Mix 2') - has to be Moncton only show played.

A setlist is an approximation of an actual concert whereas a mix would just be random songs put together ad hoc.

I don't know.  Seems some care is being taken to make it have some flow.  The opening track is "Breathe" which opened all of the 2009 shows. The closing track is "40" - where else would that fit?  Guess it'll depend on how it's mixed from there, but not really enough songs to make it feel like a full show I'm sure.

But then again U22 didn't feel like a full and proper show to me either.  Most of the highlights of the 360 experience for me were left out in favor of something that felt more like a Zoo TV set.  Without "Crazy", "Vertigo" and "Boots" it didn't feel like a 360 set list.  Same with the missing "Unknown Caller", and "NLOTH".

According to atu2 on twitter, the first copy has been delivered in Los Angeles. Quite amazing as I was expecting it to be released on mid-march... However the setlist has not been revealed yet.

I totally agree with Aaron here. Even U22 doesn't really feel like a U2360º tour and I still think they're trying to mantain a certain order on the Edge's picks setlist. For me U2hmtmkmkm's prediction is pretty spot on -- although I would put Angel of Harlem between Electrical Storm and In a Little While. Actually this is the most questionable spot as they would never play four slow-to-mid-tempo in a row such as Stuck in a Moment, Electrical Storm, In a Little While and Miss Sarajevo -- even AOH is not really an uptempo song. It was quite surprising for me they let Desire and Pride out as they would fit this spot perfectly.

Wow, I spoke too soon yesterday. How can any fan complain about this. Both U22 and FTGU & EP are massively great releases. Care was taken in design, song sequence, location and spirit of the the tour. If fans aren't happy about this, I don't know what to say. And this is much better than PJ who release every show. Consciese is the word that comes to mind.

What EP feels like is when Led Zeppelin released their second Box set in 1993. The linear notes described the release as "not merely the best of the rest" but "the rest of the best"

Well done U2.

I suppose the "big" news here is that we get (as it's the first time they're released live):
5. Electrical Storm - Stadio San Siro, Milan, 8th July 2009 (though not quite news as we knew we were getting it)
7. Your Blue Room - Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, 23rd Sept 2009
11. Scarlet - Vanderbilt Stadium, Nashville, 2nd July 2011

We also didn't have live 360 versions of:
2. I Will Follow - Stade Roi Baudouin, Brussels, 22nd Sept 2010 (well, we did have Glastonbury)
4. New Year's Day - Croke Park, Dublin, 27th July 2009
13. Miss Sarajevo - Estadio Unico De La Plata, Buenos Aires, 30th March 2011
14. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - Estadio Nacional, Santiago, 25th March 2011
15. "40" - Magnetic Hill Music Festival, Moncton, 30 July 2011

These have already been seen on the Rose Bowl DVD (and who doesn't rip the audio?), so I'm not excited about them:
1. Breathe - Stadio San Siro, Milan, 8th July 2009
3. Get On Your Boots - Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, 20th Sept 2009
6. Stuck in a Moment - Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, 11th May 2011
8. Vertigo - Subiaco Oval, Perth, 18th December 2010
12. In A Little While - Estadio Morumbi, Sao Paulo, 9th April 2011

And finally, these last two have already been released twice in 360 live form!
9. Crazy Tonight - Stade De France, Paris, 11th July, 2009 (Rose Bowl and Artificial Horizon/Wide Awake In Europe)
10. Sunday Bloody Sunday - Vanderbilt Stadium, Nashville, 2nd July 2011 (Rose Bowl and Duals/Holiday Download)

What does this mean?  I'm hoping to still see as bonus downloads:

If we get those, then we'll have a copy of every previously released U2 track that was performed in full on the 360 tour.  I'll let you guess which of these I'd like to see most.

Does anyone else think it is odd that they didn't release Stingray?

I'm sure that, based on my post just previously, you gather  that those tracks, too, are the only ones I'm really interested in.

I, too, think not releasing Stingray, never mind the others, is odd.  They were obviously willing to release it as it was voted on.

As for the other new tracks, North Star, Mercy, Glastonbury, and Every Breaking Wave (and heck, even the once-performed Boy Falls From The Sky), I think it'd be really classy to put them out as a downloadable EP.  I mean, it's not as if by doing so that they might lose future sales.  Honestly, if those tracks were on Edge's Picks, then I'd have a skyload more respect for Mr. The Edge's ability to pick tracks.

Guys, allow me to disagree. Quite often I think U2 fans are really harsh on U2.com releases (I totally agree though on the criticisms for their lousy service). It is also well-known the comparisons among U2 and Pearl Jam or REMs official sites. I have never been a PJ fan but I took part on REMs fan club during a couple of years. Both bands fan-club-only releases are basically singles -- 2/3 tracks -- whereas U2 put often a double CD, with over 20 songs. Ok, I take it that most of them are live recordings and not never-released-before tracks but even then I feel U2 deliver regularly a quite honest fan-club gift (exception made to that disaster called Duals).

Regarding the 'new' tracks, I've read a couple of months ago they would appear as bonus tracks for a possible 'The Best of 2000-2010'. Another option would be to release a 12' single on a Record Store Day or something like that -- my favorite option, BTW.

It seems to be the 'party line' that no new material will be released. Which is odd because it is not like their aren't many orphaned songs over the years to go around.

EP picks really does close out the era of 360 IMHO. The rare live tracks needed to be released in proper form.
These live tracks have been splattered over numerous releases so that has been fun too. I too would like to see a Best Of 00-10 but I don't think it is really the time to revisit at the moment. There is no need to re-hash BOMB and NLOTH A-sides again. Maybe they could release another album and then later a Best OF 06-16

Patrick,

Don't get me wrong - this package is great (along with U22)!  However, as good as some things can be, it doesn't mean that they're perfect, and I certainly believe that third releases of 360 versions of Crazy or Sunday Bloody Sunday would be met with great happiness amongst fans if they were replaced with Mothers of the Disappeared and others.

I do, however, consider all U2.com fanclub releases right up to Medium, Rare, and Remastered to be useless.  They merely rehashed previously released material (albeit usually video-only material but that is easily ripped): that's not a bonus in my mind.  In fact, as retched as Duals was, at least it and Artificial Horizon actually included previously unreleased material!
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.

The fanclub content meets different criteria than commercial releases. U2 and other big bands have changed their approach to fanclub material because now it more acceptable to bombard your audience than it was in the past. If you look at Bob Dylans bootleg series it is similar in its goals.

Make proper audio copies of stuff that is highly circulated. I for one thought the Slane release was fantastic and valuable. It is also worth noting that certain countries don't get access to certain material.

Maybe next could be an off year.

I'm sad "Mothers of the Disappeared" didn't make the list. For me that moment in Istanbul when I first heard it live was an amazing moment on the tour for me. When I was a kid I used to walk around the park dreaming of getting out of the town I grew up in and the Joshua Tree was always on repeat back then.  So hearing "Mothers" first in Istanbul and again in the rain in Zurich was special for me.  I'll cross my fingers and hope for a download.  :-)

4. New Year's Day - Croke Park, Dublin, 27th July 2009

This was one of those really pumped up moments for me.  They hadn't been playing "New Year's Day" often at this point, so when they broke it out in Dublin it really was a fun time, and I hope I wasn't singing so loud that you can hear me on this lol.  :-)  Good times.  So if they couldn't put on "Mothers" it makes me glad they did this.

I'm really happy with the last two fan club gifts.  New released material instead of repacking older released material.  The book alone is valued at 39.95 in Canada, so a $40.00 membership?  That means I'm just taking what I would spend on the book anyway and putting it into the fan club.  That's a great deal.

If they are looking toward an album next year, I'm betting this will be the end of the 360 material as well.  Well with the exception of some possible b-sides on the first single released from the new album.

As happy as I would have been with "Mothers of the Disappeared", I figured from the start that "Crazy" would show up on this.  If it's supposed to be representative of the 360 tour along with what's on U22, then you had to have "Crazy" in there.  It felt wrong to have that song missing.  Even if we've had other releases.

"Sunday Bloody Sunday" falls into the same category as "Pride" for me.  Over used.  But I didn't see "Scarlet" making it on it's own. Actually I had counted it out because it didn't have "Walk On" to be attached to.  Never thought about them including the song before it instead.  So it makes sense.  I don't think "Scarlet" stood on it's own...

Oh as for who doesn't rip the audio from the DVD?  I'm one of them.  I've always struggled with it, and I'm content to just let them put it out through the fan club like they've done with other releases.  Happy U22 and Edge's Picks didn't include the same live versions from the Rose Bowl at least...

Electrical Storm and Your Blue Room made the cut, so I'm happy.  I'm pleasantly surprised to see Scarlet on there too.

Actually, the fact that TWO out of the 15 songs are Passengers tracks makes my head explode.

I agree.  Even though Crazy is on a couple of other releases, this is "home" for that song.  How can you have 360 tracks and not include Crazy?  I was disappointed it didn't make it on U22, so I'm happy to see it here.

In my goal to "have" everything, I'd sacrifice anything that I've already got for something I haven't.  But yes, of all the 360 songs, Crazy is far and away the most representative of the tour.  I'm not crazy for triple Crazy, but I certainly get why its here.

Never thought about them including the song before it instead.  So it makes sense.  I don't think "Scarlet" stood on it's own...
I look forward to seeing hearing how it flows.  I, too, have trouble imagining it without Walk On.

Aaron, I'm genuinely surprised.  I actually played my Rose Bowl rip many, many more times than any studio album since it came out.  The same was the case for the the Slane, Boston, Zoo, Vertigo, and Mexico City videos.

Electrica the fact that TWO out of the 15 songs are Passengers tracks makes my head explode.
Ditto.  Absolute, complete ditto.  Two songs from the peak of their experimental phase are embraced and captured forever here 15 years on, but not a glint of a note from Pop.  As I think about it, Velvet Dress could have very nicely replaced Your Blue Room on alternating nights, at least musically.

I grab boots of the shows I've attended so I tend to have a wealth of live material to listen to from any particular tour.  And usually there's some good stuff floating around.  So while I don't have a copy of the Rose Bowl show in audio, I do have boots from the 20 odd shows I did make it to.  The quality varies, from barely listenable to soundboard (London and Montreal both got streamed / aired on radio so there's great quality versions available).  So if I'm grabbing a live show to listen to I'm more likely to grab something I was at rather than going back to the live releases.  I'm more a studio type guy.  But I do enjoy when there's something released from a show I've been to, especially if it's memorable.  :)

So the four songs that haven't been released are:
Return of the Stingray Guitar
Mothers of the Disappeared
Angel of Harlem
Party Girl

That'd be a nice X-Mas day EP to download from u2.com wouldn't it?!  :-)

miryclay, according to the iTunes "Get Info" box for my Somerville download of I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight:
Somerville Theatre (Boston, Massachusetts)
performance on March 11, 2009
Amazon.com MP3

I always buy downloads from iTunes (US) first.  If iTunes doesn't have them available, only then will I buy them from Amazon.com MP3.  I'm guessing that was the situation back when I bought the Somerville download of I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight.

I did not get the other March 11, 2009 Somerville performances via download.  Here's where I got them:

I imported (into my iTunes library) my Somerville Theatre performance of Breathe from my Magnificent CD-Single.

I imported (into my iTunes library) my Somerville Theatre performance of Magnificent from my I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight CD-Single.

I will try to paste the cover art for the I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight download:

Yeah, it's a thick paper dust jacket of sorts that has a pocket in the front for the photos and a slot in the back for the CD. There's also a gatefold on the back with some spider cam photos of the claw.

The book, I assume, is the same as what is sold in stores except for the dust jacket. There's no mention of "Music Edition" printed on the actual book.

Couple questions, where was that photo taken? As in, the actual stadium and city, but then, where is the camera situated and where does it point? It looks like it's taken from the ground, hence the title, but it also looks like the camera warps to make it look like the camera is below the ground... or something. Can someone explain it to a layman like myself?

You don't recognize that stadium ceiling? Seriously, the book doesn't say, but maybe someone will recognize it.

I assume the photo was made by the "gigapixel fancam" that was used to make panoramic crowd shots at North American shows. If you look at those photos on U2.com, you can tilt upward and get a similar "ground up" view of the claw. There are a couple of similar shots in the gatefold of the dust jacket.

Will it be a cardboard sleeve thing like:

-  the Artificial Horizon CD

Or will it be a cardboard sleeve thing (that opens like a book) like:
-  the Go Home Live From Slane Castle CDs
-  the U2.communication CD/CD-ROM

It's not London.  I was thinking of the image at his site:

http://www.larmann.com/ - click on the "360o Full Sphere" link on the left to see what I was thinking of.  It's definitely not that stadium once I had a good look.  I assume the version in the book is probably taken by a similar rig perhaps.  Maybe seeing that 3D image will help you conceptualize better where the camera may be?

Got it today!!  Haven't listened yet, but a few initial observations:

1. Edge offers commentary on each song on the CD just like Adam, although the comments are shorter.  He refers to GOYB as "much maligned."  Gotta love the honesty!  :)

2. Only credited snippet is "Let's Dance" by Bowie.  Redanka and Dirty South are credited for the remix on Crazy Tonight, and the sample of the Iranian song is also credited.

3. Terry Lawless is credited with keyboards on Electrical Storm, IALW, and... Pride.  Perhaps Pride was cut from the CD at the last minute?

Can't wait to listen and read!

No offense to anyone who likes Pride but - YAAAY!!  So glad it wasn't on there.  I'm so tired of that song.  :)  But everyone's milage differs.  Met a young guy in Dublin who was seeing them for the first time and all he wanted was to see Pride.  He was so enjoying every minute of it when they played it too.  :)

Since when has "Pride" involved keyboards anyway?  :/

Very good!  Just two more remain.  I am suddenly confident that they will be made available now.

As for the the five tracks debuted on the tour, well, I'm not confident, but I U2.com isn't giving me reason not to hope.

Edit: and what a good version!

So Auckland, then? I believe that was the only performance from the 360 tour?

EDIT: Oh, nevermind, looks like they played it several times on the European leg. Will have to figure out which show.

Concerning these two most recent U2.com bonus downloads, Pride (In The Name Of Love) and Angel Of Harlem . . . . . . I'm just not impressed with them.  In this new download of Angel Of Harlem, the Michael Jackson song snippets don't do anything for me.

I do appreciate different live versions . . . . . like if U2 does a live acoustic version of a song . . . . . or if U2 makes huge changes in the live performance, like they did with I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (for example, their Somerville Theatre live version [which is similar to the album version] is completely different from their live version on the Artificial Horizon CD).

Having said that, I don't need 8 or 9 live versions of songs . . . . . 2 or 3 will do.  But I suspect I'm in the minority.

I much prefer my existing live versions of Pride (In The Name Of Love) and Angel Of Harlem, which are the only ones I have in my iTunes library:

Pride (In The Name Of Love) from the 2-CD U2 Go Home Live At Slane Castle, Meath, Ireland, September 1, 2001

Pride (In The Name Of Love) from a single track iTunes purchase - Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony when U2 was inducted, New York City, NY, March 14, 2005

Angel Of Harlem from the 2-CD U2 Zoo TV Live, Sydney, Australia, November 27, 1993

Thus, I'm deleting these newest U2.com bonus downloads from my iTunes library.

As the U2360 tour was getting ready to launch the news of Michael Jackson's death went around the world. I was at those first two shows in Barcelona and my friends and I were surrounded by music by Michael Jackson.  You couldn't escape it. Driving to the show the cab driver had Thriller playing.  It was a really nice touch to hear Bono doing those bits in concert.  He added MJ snippets to Desire on one night, and Angel of Harlem on another.  And the snippets continued through the first bunch of shows on the first leg.

They weren't the best I've ever heard.  And sometimes it sounded like he was really straining.  And taken out of context this way they sound really strange.

OK U2.com - we now need some "Party Girl", "Mothers of the Disappeared" and "Stingray Guitar".  We know you have them.  :)

As for the new tracks that debuted live?  If those songs are on the new album, they'd be the perfect choices for backing tracks to some of the singles.  An "Every Breaking Wave" single to lead off the releases from the album with live b-sides of "EBW", "North Star" and others?  That'd be a nice start.  :)

I'm also hoping that Every Breaking Wave, North Star and Mercy could possibly show up on the new album, but has there been an example of a song debuting live and then appearing on a full length album? I think we've missed the boat on these songs. Maybe one would appear as a bonus track the way Fast Cars was on Atomic Bomb? I'd even be okay with Stingray, Mercy, Every Breaking Wave and North Star taking up half the space on a new album, because they're all too good to care that we only get half an album of new songs. But B-Sides is probably the only hope we have. Just hope they're studio versions so they can be as complete as the band want them.

The track is ok....the snippet is topical and fitting. However, when U2 get loose, like really loose sometimes disaster strikes. The same happened with Desire in Mexico on POP. There is a difference between loose and a trainwreck. This track straddles that line.

For those of you . . . . who have received your Edge's Picks CD, has anyone determined any errors in the track-list printed in the From The Ground Up book?  Errors such as concert location of where the tracks were performed or date of performance.

Remember that the U22 booklet contained this misprint:
first track on Disc 1 of U22
Even Better Than The Real Thing
Recorded at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, May 15, 2011
The U22 booklet mistakenly states the song was performed November 15, 2011

I can't see it on my profile. Any indication whether it's an edit or just a straight rip of the CD?

If I recall from U22, the first few tracks they offered for download had edits/fades, but the last group was just ripped directly from the CD.

So far, these are the five bonus downloads we've been offered for the newest U2.com subscription package:
no line on the horizon
spanish eyes
desire
pride (in the name of love)
angel of harlem
That's four more bonus downloads than we were offered for the previous subscription package (which only offered unknown caller).  I think the most recent bonus download, angel of harlem, was made available on December 23.  I get the feeling that we won't be getting anymore.

Added today on the U2.com Account Info page:

Quote
DOWNLOAD FIVE TRACKS FROM EDGE'S PICKS CD
Breathe (Live from U2360°)
New Year's Day (Live from U2360°)
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Live from U2360°)
In A Little While (Live from U2360°)
"40" (Live from U2360°)

It is one zip download.  They do not appear to be unique edits with fade in/outs like the U22 first few download previews, so nothing too exciting.

I was also offered the bonus live downloads [no line on the horizon, spanish eyes, desire, pride (in the name of love), angel of harlem].  OK, great!

I just checked my U2.com account.  As mentioned in the post above, I was also offered 5 downloads of live tracks from the Edge's Picks CD.  I already have them on the Edge's Picks CD they sent me for renewing my U2.com subscription.  What is the purpose of offering them as downloads?
Title: Re: U2.Com 2012 Membership Package.
Post by: Aaron on January 18, 2013, 12:25:10 PM
The reason they are offering them as downloads is to entice people to resubscribe. Instant gratification. You subscribe you can download 10 tracks right away.  And eventually you'll get five of them on CD.

It's not aimed at people who already have the CD, but aimed at those who might subscribe new.  It's probably more difficult to tell the difference between the two so they just give them to all paid subscribers.

The full "Melon" wasn't released on vinyl - a four track ep was released on vinyl and used for promotion and carried the title Melon but it was not the full length album.  The full Melon was only released on CD, although it was reissued in "The Complete U2" I seem to remember that being short one song - they had an error in the set and included a different version of "Lemon" or something.

"Artificial Horizon" was issued in full on vinyl in purple vinyl.  It wasn't a u2.com exclusive anymore either, anyone could purchase it through the website...but you got a discount if you were an active subscriber.

None of the others have been released that way to my knowledge.

Thanks guys, I put some vinyl releases on the backburner and am trying to catch up. Melon didn't really date well IMHO.

Artificial Horizon also maybe suffers from reaching too far back in the catalogue. I would have been happier with a 21C only release comp albeit Melon was released before POP.

I hope they announce something soon because I need to renew. Last year I speculated we'd get "Songs of Ascent"... but that's because I thought it was just going to be leftovers from the NLOTH sessions. Now we know it's actually the third album in U2's planned trilogy.  :)

Go back to the 360 and give us an EP of new songs from then - "mercy", "boy falls", "Glastonbury", "North Star", "stingray guitar". And throw in a CD single with bsides (a remix, a live version, a new track) for The Miracle and EBW.

That would be awesome!!!  Last year the announcement came on 14 November, so hopefully we'll hear something in the next couple of days.  I'm kind of worried that they gave us so many extras with the actual album release that there might not be that much left for the fan club.

Last year's gift was not the greatest, but the book IS a good read and it ties in perfectly with the themes of the new album. I wonder if that was the plan all along?  Probably not.

With the tour announcement coming soon, my expectations for the subscriber's gift are close to zero. I really don't expect anything else other than the presale codes. This year's subscription rate is already attractive for the hardcore fans and I just don't see them digging into the archives to offer something rare or unreleased.  Keeping in mind the gift (if any) will be SOI-related, here are two options I would really like to have:

1) A double A-side 7' single for The Miracle/Every Breaking Wave
2) A 12' single for Crystal Ballroom Remixes.

Don't hold your expectations to anything more than that.

I don't know.  They are in an odd space with this one.  If tickets go on sale next week, then they are faced with a number of subscribers who will not have to renew to enter into the ticket sales.  Many of us have been bumped ahead now and subscriptions renew in FEB / MAR instead.  So they'll renew after the ticket sales.

They could be devious and offer a second set of presales if you renew.  That would probably get people interested, but otherwise they might have to actually work to get people to sign up again...

Although a tour is a surefire way to ensure they are going to get tonnes of new subscribers.

I suspect a new package will be on the horizon. I would move away from 360 extra tracks because a) 360 is over b) they were not happy with those bridges and such in EBW and other test tracks. An EP of say the Jo W session would be great or even an exclusive record pressings of the acoustic sessions. Double 45's or 12" single of Crystal Ballroom would also be great.

I hope they save those 360 rarities, North Star and Mercy for SOE.

They're so focused on the new material now (and rightly so!), I think it would be a mistake to do another "archival" release for the fan club. Hopefully there are some cool SOI-related gems that they could put on a CD or vinyl.

At the same time, I also think it's possible that tickets might be the only real fan club incentive this year, and that there won't be a physical gift. I hope I'm wrong though.

I think U2 should continue the wave of generosity for their fans. No one likes to subscribe to a website that doesn't offer tickets and it has been a couple of years. I really like the subscriber gifts because they usually release stuff that is semi-promo anyway. Think u2Communication and Slane. It is possible that they might announce a gift but not distribute it till the new tour in the spring.

Medium was an excellent comp that tidied up some housekeeping and was released a month after NLOTH so maybe we will see another one. It is fun to hear songs in new contexts. I still feel that they should leave behind AB, 360 and anything related to North Side. Subscriber only R & H remaster would be cool.

Mercy has already been released in a live format.  So it's already out there.  What's the harm in going back again?  As for North Star - it's also already showing up in the 4th Transformers movie, and elements of it are showing up on the new album.  so it may not be a starter from here either...

The new songs from Achtung Baby Remaster, Oh Berlin and the like
Winter (soundtrack and Linear versions)
An Acoustic Version of Original of the Species
North Star as it appeared in Transformers
Ordinary Love.
Live version of Mercy.

They could look at other avenues for revenue on the tickets as well.  They are now being managed by Guy Oseary who also manages Madonna.  Madonna doesn't sell a fan club membership.  Instead you buy access to a presale.  She'll sell so many shows in one week and you buy access to the presales for those shows.

So you buy your access.  I think it was $40.  You get a small gift (it was a poster or a laminate).  And you get access to the presales for all the shows on sale that week.  So if Toronto and Ottawa are both on sale that week you can try for either.

But she spreads her ticket sales over a wider window.  So Toronto and Montreal might be in different weeks.  So if you want presale access to both you buy two presale access codes.  It gets expensive quickly if you like going to multiple cities.

I've already heard that pricing will be similar to her last outing in the seats, so they may borrow a few other ideas from her as well.

I will renew and end up with a second copy of the previous year's gift. Thankfully, when the new gift is announced I've always gotten that one too.  I think I have three copies of "From the Ground Up" due to various re-subscription snafus.

I just got an email from U2.com saying I have two days left to renew. But it's still promoting last year's gift. This happens every time! I will renew and end up with a second copy of the previous year's gift. Thankfully, when the new gift is announced I've always gotten that one too.  I think I have three copies of "From the Ground Up" due to various re-subscription snafus.

Do you happen to have an extra copy of 'Duals'? I never received mine and am still looking for one.

I don't even have my own copy of Duals! I didn't start subscribing to the fan club until the following year.  :(  I plan to get it at some point on the secondary market, but I'm just not eager to pay big money for a CD that has mostly previously released material...

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'll also pick it up from Ebay or something but it's not on top of my wish list either

Sadly i found a copy of Duals at the used shop i frequent.  It was there for $7.  Even at that price I just left it.  Sadly it was gone when i went back looking for it for Don.  Had it been any of the other releases I would have picked it up for a trade or something...

OMG!  Bono was SERIOUSLY injured in the bike accident.  Perhaps tickets for the tour won't be going on sale as soon as we had hoped.

I bet he's so frustrated right now. The band had genuine momentum for the first time in years. Godspeed for a full recovery.
