Title: 'U22' - The Ultimate U2360° Setlist
Post by: hmtmkmkm on October 24, 2011, 09:54:40 PM
http://www.u2.com/news/title/u22-the-ultimate-u2360-setlist

Excited by this. I think this goes a long way to rectifying the debacle that was the U2 Duals subscriber offer. Although my recent re-subscription might not entitle me to this new one. This is also a chance for myself (and others) to shamelessly show off my perfect live setlist and see what others think of it.

Personally I think most people just pick their favourite 22 songs out of the possible 46, which I think is a mistake. I modeled my choices based on how the band structured their setlists throughout the tour. For example, they always wanted the Crazy Tonight Remix in the middle, they always had either Even Better, Return Of The Stingray Guitar, Soon, Breathe at the start, always had Hold Me, With Or Without You, Ultraviolet, Moment Of Surrender in the final encore and neither of those were moved out of their positions. And there was a healthy mix of songs that led into City Of Blinding Lights, where most people can take license as to what goes in there. To me, there's no point picking just the best 22 songs and then not having one that they would open the show with, or close the show with. The best way, in my view, would be to pick the best 22 that could still actually closely resemble a setlist that appeared on the tour. I also think there's some obligation to put a reasonable amount of songs from the Horizon album, not to say that either of mine were reluctant choices. And I was disappointed Mercy and North Star weren't possibilities, but I assume it's because their performances were very raw and the band may not be happy with their final recordings. Hence my final list was:

1) Even Better Than The Real Thing; 2) Beautiful Day; 3) I Will Follow; 4) Get On Your Boots; 5) Magnificent; 6) Until The End Of The World; 7) New Year's Day; 8 ) Unknown Caller; 9) Unforgettable Fire; 10) Zooropa; 11) City Of Blinding Lights; 12) Vertigo; 13) I'll Go Crazy Remix; 14) Sunday Bloody Sunday; 15) Pride; 16) Scarlet; 17) Bad; 18) Where The Streets Have No Name; 19) One; 20) Hold Me, Thrill Me; 21) Ultraviolet; 22) Moment Of Surrender

The reinvention of The Real Thing just pipped Stingray Guitar and Breathe didn't feel like a U2 song. I couldn't stand to leave New Year's Day out – it probably just squeezed Still Haven't Found out of the list, only because on this tour, the crowd sang the song more than the band did, which doesn't make much sense for this kind of album. Zooropa was a must. And the combo of Unknown Caller/Unforgettable Fire is, I think, far superior to In A Little While/Miss Sarajevo leading into Blinding Lights/Vertigo. I think MLK was awesome but it's been in the same role for a long time and it was amazing to see Scarlet take that place. Bad stole Walk On's cemented spot, only because I couldn't fit it in anywhere else, and it's traditionally been an excellent lead in to Streets, also allowing for a snippet of All I Want Is You and many others. I couldn't choose between Hold Me/Ultraviolet so I've kept both and hoped that Ultraviolet can play the same role that With Or Without You played on the tour, but I'm not overly impressed with the choice. And the fixtures are there because they are exactly that – fixtures. You can't put Crazy Tonight anywhere else and certainly can't take it out or it wouldn't be a U2360 show. Same with Moment Of Surrender. But the good thing is songs from Track 2-10 could so easily be shuffled around, a lot of them even replaced, if one wished. Again, this is all completely subjective, but I'd be interested to hear other opinions.

Finally, an album for fans made by fans.
I must say, hmtmkmkm, your picks are a great representation of the 360 Tour and form a brilliant setlist.

My personal selection wasn't based on a setlist, but more on songs that haven't appeared on cd (as a live version that is) so far. That's why I chose:

Breathe
Electrical Storm
Get On Your Boots
Magnificent
Miss Sarajevo
Moment Of Surrender
Mothers Of The Disappeared
No Line On The Horizon
One Tree Hill
Return Of The Stingray Guitar
Scarlet
Spanish Eyes
The Unforgettable Fire
Ultra Violet
Unknown Caller
Your Blue Room
Zooropa

The other 6 tracks are personal favourites from which I'd love to have the 360 Versions on CD:
Even Better Than The Real Thing (Remix, sort of...)
Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me
Mysterious Ways
Out Of Control
The Fly

Of course New Year's Day, Where The Streets Have No Name, Sunday Bloody Sunday, One, Beautiful Day etc. are standout tracks. It's just that they have been released on either a commercial album (Under a Blood Red Sky, Rattle And Hum) a fanclub release (Communication, Zoo TV, Go Home, Artificial Horizon) or various cd-singles.

Unfortunately the new songs aren't available to choose from (North Star and Mercy).
Still, having Mercy on Wide Awake In Europe makes owning that EP even more special now that the song doesn't become available on this compilation.

Just my thoughts...

For the first time ever, I'm considering subscribing to U2.com.  This is an awesome idea.  Like bobni, I'd favor songs that haven't been on CD before, and then add some favorites.  Maybe something like this (these are just random selections, not in any coherent order):

Zooropa
Your Blue Room
Electrical Storm
Mothers of the Disappeared
Moment of Surrender
Bad
NLOTH
One Tree Hill
Return of the Stingray Guitar
Scarlet
Stay
Unforgettable Fire
Unknown Caller
Magnificent
I Will Follow
HMTMKMKM
ISHFWILF
WTSHNN
Breathe
All I Want is You
EBTTRT Remix
40

You gotta include "40" :-)  it was the last song played on the entire tour.  perfect way to wrap up the set for the CD.  :-)

please take a look at http://underanatomicsky.blogspot.com/2011/10/u22-tracklist-details.html?spref=tw and watch for the second link on the page if you want some insider information on what shows these tracks are likely to be drawn by.  Knowing the cities where they were performed will that alter your choices any?!

I know seeing that list, and worrying about a repeat of a lot of Rose Bowl tracks, I'm swayed away from tracks where i don't know the location...

> I neglected certain tracks that weren't indicative of the tour. For example, 40 was not on my list. One Tree Hill as well.

The last thing i want is a CD that's indicative of the tour.  These songs have been released a thousand times on live CDs.  I'm tired of 122 copies of Beautiful Day.

And with all the tracks that didn't have a location listed, I'm expecting they are just going to use the Rose Bowl tracks we already have anyway so I'm steering clear of those...

Me?  Picking tracks that weren't on the Rose Bowl DVD, and after those are all chosen?  Then I'm picking out some of my favorites left over...

I'm not sure if I will re-subscribe . . . . . even with this offer.  It's the only reason I'd be subscribing . . . . . and $50 is quite a bit.  Maybe I could do what I did for the Artificial Horizon CD . . . . . . be patient and then buy the U22 live CD Set on Ebay.  I paid the seller $10.50 for the Artificial Horizon CD plus $3 shipping.  $13.50 fit into my budget better than $50.  Do any of you think the U22 live CD Set will be available on Ebay . . . . . from people who had multiple subscriptions?

Now that I do think about it, the pull of hearing songs that weren't released or not released often is getting stronger. There's only one song I haven't heard from the entire tour and that was Love Rescue Me, ironically, only played in the Australian shows where I'm from. For whatever reason, they didn't play it at the two Melbourne shows I attended. So I'd be desperate for that song to be included, and for Scarlet because it was from my hometown. And throw in One Tree Hill, Electrical Storm and Zooropa. What does Mix mean? That it comes from multiple cities? There's something fun about being able to choose the songs in the set but also some frustration at seeing some of my songs below the top 22! And I still think they will arrange the order based around a possible setlist, even if it doesn't end up looking like a replica from the tour. Then again, the Rattle and Hum video was restructured...

I think this will definitely end up on ebay at some stage, that's a given, but the popularity of this and the positive reaction from fans so far has me thinking this won't come cheap at all. I think $50 will actually be a steal. Duals actually came off a bit more expensive than I expected, for an offer than many fans thought was ridiculous by by U2.com

Like you, I was able to get Artificial Horizon on ebay for relatively cheap.  However, I have been shocked that Duals--a CD that almost everyone hates--has remained very expensive on ebay.  That being the case, I don't hold out much hope that U22 will eventually become "cheap" on the secondary market, especially since it's actually a desirable release.  So, I'm probably going to hold my nose and fork over $50 just to get a U2.com membership, even though it really pains me to do so...

If you look at the older fan club CDs none of them are at bargain prices. They become more scarce thru time.

Thanks very much for the feedback.  I haven't seen much activity on this forum recently so I was worried that I might not get any replies.  I check this forum several times daily and I depend on your info and opinions.  I guess I will renew my membership, but I think U2.com should re-examine their subscription price . . . . considering the economic situation throughout the world.  Separate from that issue, $50 is over-priced for what is offered in the subscription package.  If there were 2 great exclusive CD packages given EACH year, then $50 would be a fair price.  But with DUALS - it was neither great nor exclusive.  Again . . . . I really appreciate your quick feedback.

Add to that the fact that this will only be going out to those who resubscribe.

You know that the big draw for subscriptions is the ability to enter the ticket presale.  Once the Moncton show happened I had four or five people ask me how to sign up to the fan club, because $50 wasn't that bad a price to pay to ensure you got the seats you wanted.  I also know people who have multiple subscriptions so they can enter the presales more than once.  Many of those people don't care about a CD, and those are the CDs that populate ebay once they come out.

Right now what's the draw for resubscribing?  This CD?  So people who resubscribe are going to be ones who want the CD and are unlikely to part with it on eBay...those who joined for tickets on the last tour around are likely to let their subscriptions lapse.

I expect a number of these will hit eBay.  And if you're quick you might get one for a decent price.  But I wouldn't leave it a long time to try to get one as quantities of this one aren't going to be as numerous.

I do expect that you'll be able to subscribe and get the CD after the fact though.  With Duals, it came out in the spring, but subscriptions made all through summer, into fall all included Duals as well.  So you could always try your luck on eBay and give it a month or so to see if you can find a deal, if you can't find anything then subscribe and get the present...it's a thought....

Just today noticed that the results from the poll have been removed so that we don't know which of the 22 songs out of the 40-odd will be selected. Don't know how long it's been that way but I couldn't find the button to view progressive results. Anyone else thinking this is to allow them to change the final results without us knowing, so as to put whatever songs they want? Not so much to make sweeping changes that make the entire poll a farce, but perhaps to just take a few out that they never intended to include, or to put a few in that they wanted to put in from the start? I don't necessarily think it's a bad idea, there's equal chance they'll put one of the songs that I wanted as there is they'll take one of my songs out.

They've said all along that they would stop showing the running totals at some point so that the final tracklisting is a surprise.

When are the results supposed to be announced?  I actually joined U2.com for the very first time just to get this set, and now I'm too lazy to log on and find out.  :(

On the plus side, there seems to be a lot of extra thought and planning going into this release.  None of the other Fan Club CDs had packaging mock-ups released this early, did they?  That packaging is way more impressive than anything they've done before.

Here's the list from U2.com.  This list is based on the number of votes each track got, but it's not the sequence of the CDs.  The e-mail mentions that the songs still need to be "sequenced."

1. Bad
2. Where The Streets Have No Name
3. Magnificent
4. One
5. Ultraviolet
6. Even Better than The Real Thing
7. With or Without You
8. Beautiful Day
9. City of Blinding Lights
10. The Unforgettable Fire
11. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
12. All I Want is You/Love Rescue Me
13. Moment of Surrender
14. Until The End of the World
15. The Fly
16. One Tree Hill
17. Stay (Faraway, So Close)
18. Walk On
19. Zooropa
20. Elevation
21. Out of Control
22. Mysterious Ways

I've already made peace with the fact that songs like Your Blue Room and Electrical Storm weren't going to make it.  But I am bummed that NLOTH was edged out by yet another version of Mysterious Ways during the final days of voting...  :-[

morgan1098 . . . . . thanks for posting the list.  I'm quite disappointed the following weren't chosen (in no order):
Breathe
Unknown Caller
No Line On The Horizon
Electrical Storm
Mothers Of The Disappeared
Your Blue Room

and maybe a few of the newer songs they played (but haven't yet released studio versions of)

FYI, I'm not sure if all of the above songs were eligible for the vote.  Regardless, I'm surprised U2 fans chose so many of the hits.  Oh well.

I wouldn't generalise on such a comment...

Does anyone want to take a stab at the order of the songs? A lot of them could slot in to their original setlist positions. Or does anyone think they will go with a different idea for the order?

Even people that voted for some rare tracks would vote for some common ones, and then you have people that just voted for common ones... so in the end it would tend to average out for the more common/popular tracks even if a lot of people voted for more rare tracks.

:::..There are songs that make sense together, I agree: UVI-WOWY, ONE-STREETS, etc.

But again, another offcial live release (DVD or Fans only CD live release) with Mysterious Ways? The Fly? Beautiful Day?...it's gonna be an awful setlist non-related to any of the 3 phases that the tour had: pre-back-surgery, post surgery or Glastonbury rehearsals.

Some guy at @U2 Forum said that a Live recording CD of Glastonbury would have kick every-fan (and I add old and young fan).  8)

The final set list will have only peak moments: OOC, BAD, STREETS, UVI, EBTTRT...and I really dont think that MOS got more votes than Every Breaking Wave, or Mercy...oh, c'mon...  :P

Yes, Carl is right, there was no ability to vote for "Every Breaking Wave", "Mercy" or any of the new songs, with the exception of the instrumental "Return of the Stingray Guitar".

I think had they been included there might have been some call for those songs, but "Stingray" didn't make it...was that because it was instrumental or was it because the bulk of fanclub members had no clue what it was?!

Over the years the fan club has grown by leaps and bounds as people join to try to get advance tickets. My cousin hasn't bought an album since Achtung Baby but when the chance to see them in Moncton came up she joined the fan club.  She voted in the poll as well.  She just picked songs she knew (ie. the hits.)  I'm thinking that type of member makes up the bulk of the membership right now post tour, rather than being the minimum...

I'm shocked to read this about your cousin.  But based on the vote results, this thinking makes sense.  I wonder if the U2 camp ever conceived that the voting could go this way . . . . . that songs like Unknown Caller, Breathe, and No Line On The Horizon would not be voted for.

What do people want, then? Just give the vote to people who have subscribed for 5 years or more? 10? Every year instead of every 4 years? I voted for some of the rare ones too but if I voted for all classics, my money is just as good as anyone else's who subscribed and you can't tell me my vote is worth less. And considering the debacle that was Duals, and all the complaints that came from subscribers about being treated like rubbish, and we all know there were plenty, plenty, plenty of posts on forums everywhere about how people were pissed, this idea was an excellent one. How do you satisfy everyone? I think some of us are taking what they're giving us for granted.

First, your opinion is valid: you want what you want.

Now to answer your question, what I want is for people to vote smartly, and in my opinion, that means not voting for songs that have been released live many times.  I did a search for "live" in my music library.  Now only including commercial releases, here are the number of times I have each track that will be on U22:

10   One
 9   Beautiful Day
 9   With or Without You
9   Where The Streets Have No Name
 8   Elevation
8   Until The End of the World
 7   Mysterious Ways
 7   I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
 7   Bad
 5   City of Blinding Lights
 5   Out of Control
 4   Walk On
4   Even Better than The Real Thing
 4   The Fly
 3   Magnificent
 3   Stay (Faraway, So Close)
 2   Moment of Surrender
5/2 All I Want is You/Love Rescue Me
 1   Ultraviolet
 1   One Tree Hill
 1   The Unforgettable Fire
 0   Zooropa

Now as great as some of those top 11 tracks are, I can't fathom why anyone would choose to have some of them for the nth time when so many rarer tracks were available.  Excluding those only-for-tickets memberships, I have to believe that anyone who is willing to pay $40 per year just to be in the club and get an annual CD and the occasional download would already own multiple live versions of most of the songs.

To me, it's like a Robert DeNiro fan choosing to own a 10th version of Taxi Driver because the colour of the box is slightly different and the fan just LOVES that film so much, instead of owning some rogue film of his that was never previously available.

I don't get it.

The post above is excellent.  One of the best forum posts I have ever read.  However . . . . I'm not aware of any commercial audio releases of live versions of Ultraviolet (Light My Way) and Moment Of Surrender.  Did you acquire your live versions by ripping the audio from the 360 Live At The Rose Bowl DVD?

Hopefully, the U2 camp gets some of the feedback concerning how much many of us wanted live versions of the more rare tracks and more live tracks from No Line On The Horizon.  And maybe it will be part of the next subscription renewal.

Concerning the packaging of the U22 release . . . . . based on the image at U2.com . . . . . . it appears it will not be released in a standard plastic 2-CD jewel case . . . . . which would easily fit on my shelf right next to my other U2 CDs.  I hope I'm wrong, though.

And how many people on this board have 10 copies or more of a single U2 release.

Raise your hands now...  ;)

I'd suggest it's probable casual fans don't care about songs they don't know and just want their favorite songs on a CD to listen to when driving etc.

And I certainly agree with everything said before this. I hope my post didn't come off sounding opposed to that because I certainly wanted the rarer ones, too, myself. It's just unfortunate that your point isn't one shared by everyone. Someone had the idea of U2.com releasing the other songs on another fanclub offer another time. Hell, even charging for it.

Wow, that's quite the compliment.  I'm honoured, especially given how much valuable information I've taken from here.

Regarding my numbers, yes, DVD audio rips are included.  I did not include the same performance of a track to count twice if was released in both formats.  This means that for those tracks that appear on both the Red Rocks video and the Under a Blood Red Sky album, I only count it for one.

Also, when I said commercial, I also meant to include fan club releases, which pretty much makes no difference since all the U2.com releases have mostly duplicated previously released audio from video tracks.

And how many people on this board have 10 copies or more of a single U2 release.

True, Carl, but you did just seem to miss my key part: I said, "instead of owning some rogue film of his that was never previously available."  I don't think most of us would buy a second copy of any album before owning all its singles' b-sides.

Someone had the idea of U2.com releasing the other songs on another fanclub offer another time. Hell, even charging for it. I'd buy it. It would make a nice companion to this one.

Same here.  I think the best decision would to have made a 3CD ultimate setlist, something that had all the staples of the two years of touring, and then a forth CD of rarities.  Yes, I'm dreaming.

Thus it is entirely Aaron's fault, as he has enlisted untold legions of casual fans to join u2.com so he can snag their extra tickets!

Reality is my cousin bought the membership to get her Moncton tickets and couldn't figure out how to use it. She finally got me to buy them for her in the general on sale.  Ended up behind the stage but had a great time.

She's excited she's getting a live cd of all the hits she saw. She sees it as getting something for he money she spent. She wants all the big songs, and has no clue what "Stingray Guitar" or "Your Blue Room" is. Sure there are many others like her.

And as much as I wanted some rarities I picked some tracks I had before as well. Streets!? Love it and yes I'll take it again. Stay? Another fave and taken from Chicgo which may have been a show I was at so yes please.

I understand the frustration about not getting more rare tracks.  U2.com is usually to blame for problems like this, but in this case I think they handled things as fairly and democratically as possible.

The real culprit here is "U2 fans," but how can we direct our frustration at such a huge and ambiguous group?  It's much easier to just say, "Curse you, U2.com!  You've screwed us again!"

It's hard to believe for those of us who collect obsessively, but there really is no mass market live U2 CD in existence, aside from Under a Blood Red Sky.  Everything else is fan club CDs, DVDs, and bootlegs.  And I think there are a ton of folks out there who could genuinely be called "U2 fans" and yet don't own every previous fan club CD, DVD, and bootleg.  For them, U22 is a pretty cool release.

As much as I enjoy playing devil's advocate, I agree that just releasing it as an x-disc set would have been a lot nicer.  Then again if they released all the tracks anyways, it would take away from the voting aspect, which was a pretty cool gesture, even if it turned out poorly.  Maybe have extra discs that could be purchased at a reasonable price to augment/supplement the free voted for one?

I'd consider myself a MUSE fan, I have all their albums and even most of their b-sides. But I don't have every live recording/dvd and I'm sure my choices in a MUSE18 or whatever would annoy some hardcore fans. In the end if it was a song I didn't really care for, I wouldn't care if it was something from Showbiz that never had an official live release... I'd want the songs I'd personally want to listen to.

@george I just found the context amusing. I was thinking of Aaron's 17 copies of the Beautiful Day single when I wrote that. :)

But you can't discount those only-for-ticket memberships.  I have every reason to believe they make up the bulk of memberships.  And u2.com is emailing everyone about this CD - current subscribers and lapsed.  Only current subscribers could vote, but that means anyone taking out a fan club membership from November 2010 onwards likely still had a valid membership when voting started.  That would likely include those who signed up for ticket sales in Australia, Africa, South America, and the newer shows for North America.

That likely includes fans who are interested enough to vote in the vote, and maybe, just maybe some fans who might resubscribe if they think they are getting a kick ass CD.  They know the crazy collectors who have every version of every live DVD and all the old fan club cds are going to resub regardless, they don't need a product to entice us...

How'd it work?

Well I was sitting at the mall last night watching the "mall television" which shows little newsclips about what's going on in the world.  And yes, there on the screen, "U2 releasing unique 2 CD set with all of their hits live, chosen by fans, available only by subscribing to u2.com"  I've seen it reported on Much Music here in Canada.  It seems to be getting more publicity than other releases have...

:::... and once again we have an official release with the same ol' songs...

We let the youngest fans with credit card spoiled a big chance to do something interesting.  ???

:::...I said this back in January 21th

Today Aaron posted this article on @U2:

"...There was plenty of opportunity to put together a CD that was made up of rarer songs, and to even not include any of the staples on this CD. The fans did not vote that way. Seventy-five percent of the staple songs made available in the poll were chosen for inclusion. Twenty-nine percent of the lesser-played songs in the poll were chosen for inclusion, and 38 percent of the rarities made available in the poll made it to the final track listing. It seems that the fans wanted to hear the same songs we heard each night in concert..."

Of course...Aaron and me must be around the same age. 8)

I wrote the article back when the track list was first announced.  It started out as part of my OTR column two weeks ago, and then was too big to contain in one spot, so I asked to break it out...

Me personally?  I'd have loved to have the rarities.  But I knew going into this one chances were slim, so I didn't get my hopes up, and i'm happy with some of the stuff coming out of this.

I am going to cross my fingers and hope we get the other 24 tracks as a download.  C'mon U2.com stream the full lenght version.  :)

I'm just itching to get this 2-CD Set.  If anyone knows any updated info about the mail-out date and is willing to share, please do.  I wonder if we will receive it before the end of April.   :)

Feb 2009 - Medium, Rare, Remastered
Mar 2010 - Artificial Horizon
Apr 2011 - Duals
May 2012 - U22  (based on U2.com's announcement that "it's looking good for an early May release.")

For those of you who don't yet know about the latest update on the 2-CD U22 Set, here is some of the info from the email that U2.com sent today (May 16, 2012):
Production has taken slightly longer than planned but to make the final wait pass a little more quickly, today we're making available a fourth live track for download - Unknown Caller, a bonus track that's not on U22.  And on May 30th, everyone who's resubscribed for 2012 will be able to download EIGHT more tracks.

What does that last part mean?
May 30th - download EIGHT more tracks . . . . .

I'm thinking it means we won't receive the 2-CD U22 Set until sometime in June . . . . and to compensate us for waiting until June (rather than May), here's 8 more downloads . . . . . which are actually tracks that will be on the 2-CD U22 Set.

Does anyone have an alternative theory?
Title: Re: 'U22' - The Ultimate U2360° Setlist
Post by: morgan1098 on May 16, 2012, 09:00:31 PM
I THINK "Unknown Caller" was the first song cut from U22... in other words, it was #23 on the list in terms of votes.  Does anyone remember?  If that's the case, it's POSSIBLE that the next 8 downloads will be numbers 24 through 31 on the list.  At least, that would be totally awesome.  However, the cynic in me agrees with Dagobah and fears that the next 8 downloads will be tracks that are already on U22.  Hmmm.

EDIT.... Holy cow!  A moderator in the U2.com forums just posted this:

"the 8 tracks are not on U22, they are bonus tracks. You folks asked for this, I passed it on, and it got done. Amazed. And delighted." - Bigwave (u2.com mod)

Remains to be seen if these videos are the actual included tracks or not.

The 45s clip of "I Still Haven't Found" was labelled as being from Boston on the voting tracks.  The video is from Johannesburg.

The 45s audio clip of "The Fly" for voting was from Nashville, the video they posted was from East Lansing.
The 45s audio clip of "UTEOTW" was from Mexico, and the video posted is Auckland.

Now the 45s clip and the video for "Mysterious Ways" are both from Capetown.  And the 45s clip and the video for "Magnificent" were both from Zurich 1.

I guess we won't know till we get the cd.  I'm going to start a new thread for identifying where these tracks come from...

Title: First 3 Download Tracks ARE Unique
Post by: George on May 30, 2012, 06:15:03 PM
I realised an interesting note about the first three preview downloads when I saw the extracted file names of the new eight downloads.  What led me to this realisation was that the new downloads were titled in the Tunes disc and track style.  That made me figure that these were direct rips from the CDs.  It seems they indeed are, because there are no fade-ins or fade-outs.  These tracks, therefore, are almost certainly identical to the CD versions we will get.

So what makes the first three preview tracks tracks unique is that they are fade-in/fade-out edits of the CD tracks.

Exciting, right?  ;)

Here's the recording info from the liner notes:

Recorded by Alistair McMillan
Mixed by Declan Gaffney at Hanover Quay, Dublin, and Artillery Studios, London
Mixing Assisted by Ronan Phelan and Jack McKenna
Keyboards by Terry Lawless ('I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For,' 'Beautiful Day,' 'Bad,' 'City of Blinding Lights,' 'MLK/Walk On,' 'With or Without You,' 'Moment of Surrender')

Produced by Declan Gaffney
Project Managers Jeremy Joseph and Brian Celler
Project Co-ordinators Candida Bottaci and Tanya Davis
Mastering Pete Maher for 140dB
I thought it was interesting that Terry Lawless was only credited with keyboards on 7 tracks, as there are keyboards on just about every song.  I guess the rest is handled by sequencers and software.

Oh, and here are the credited snippets:
"Need You Tonight"
"Never Tear Us Apart"
"You'll Never Walk Alone"
"Strangers in the Night"
"New York, New York"
"Whole of the Moon"

Even Better Than The Real Thing
Recorded at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, May 15, 2011

I guess my U22 booklet has a misprint because it states the song was performed November 15, 2011

Regarding Even Better Than The Real Thing, why did they choose to fade the song in?  Two additional seconds of crowd noise added before the track would make it much more enjoyable.

::...I haven't received my package (as usual)...but perhaps it has the fade (EBTTRT - MEX - May 15th) because, at the very end, Bono says, very clear "...Even Better than Last night!"  :D

My brother and me were on attend to the Mex City show, the day before, and our guesses is that Bono says that because not for the people reaction (listen to the boots of both shows and compare, show from May 14th had an  overwhealming crowd singing and cheering).  8)

Bono Says that, because's THE EDGE's Guitar Solo Intro was great, flawless, AND the previous night, the first night and the rest of the Latin America shows had a terrible performance of the slide solo, compared to this one. Check YouTube and confirm this...Also Bono, says, after the first verse something like "turn up the bass, joe" probably was erased from the final mix too   ::)

::...I haven't received my package (as usual)...but perhaps it has the fade (EBTTRT - MEX - May 15th) because, at the very end, Bono says, very clear "...Even Better than Last night!"  :D

Even Better than last night is still in there at the end on the CD.  :)

I like the "Slide Away" snippet, too.  Strangely, "Need You Tonight" and "Never Tear Us Apart" are listed in the credits in the liner notes, but "Slide Away" is not.  I wonder why?

The snippet at the end of the song from Croatia isn't named either.  I have the name for it somewhere.  Wonder why those two went without mention.  Pretty much everything else was noted.

I loved the "Slide Away" bit.  It's one of my favorite Bono projects outside of U2.
