Thanks for the heads up on that. I see it now. Another Redanka and there's the second Wonderland. There has to be a few more coming. This one is going to be expensive. I'm not going to pay that much for a cockatoo, would you?

New Adam K as well.

I guess it depends how many turn out to be circulating, but at least that first one will likely be too rich for my blood.

Well, that 10 track is already over $150.  Already out of the range of what I would pay.

More of these remix CDs are showing up on eBay with different tracklistings and the legitimacy of them seems questionable at best. That one's definitely bootleg. But there are increasingly more 10-track promos showing up on eBay. I'd imagine the average price will drop to something reasonable in a few weeks.

There's a couple available for $100 right now.

Why aren't those other 3 mixes streaming on some site? Why hasn't U2.com provided a clue about what's happening. Very curious.

I don't remember such a shambles of releases from any band like what's happened with NLOTH, the videos, and the singles.

It's all quite second rate. For a 1st rate album.

Agreed 110%, slaneman.  I'd expect far more intelligent decisions from a band that's been around as long as this one.

Well, dim-witted business decisions aside, my heart will always belong to this band, so I just jumped without a parachute and purchased a new copy of this 10-track promo from eBay for $98.99 + $3 shipping.  If someone doesn't report back first, I'll let you know the juicy details of this disc when it arrives.  It damn well better not be some crock-'o'-shit CD-R or I'll be livid...

Agreed.

I gave in and purchased this together with another rare promo CD from a reputable dealer for a small three digit figure including shipping. I'll also be able to post further details in a couple of days unless someone beats me to it. As God, Part II said, it'd better not be a CD-R.

Hmm...tried to pay for the CD today that I won on Wednesday (had to wait for my paycheck) and all traces of the item listing are suddenly gone.  I'm trying to work it out as a private sale with the seller now (she says there was some kind of problem with her listings, so they were all erased by eBay)...fingers crossed...

Just saw this over at MusicTap.net:

Watch for Magnificent, a Digital EP coming from U2 and scheduled for May 19. Physical product arrives on June 9 from Interscope Records as a Maxi CD.

MusicTap only lists release information for US CDs, which leads me to believe that there might actually be a CD single release here in the US!  If so, that would be the first time since the Pop era that U2 has done this.  Plus, MusicTap notes that it is on Interscope records (which wouldn't apply if this was an EU release) and also refers to it as a "maxi CD," which is a term that is typically reserved for the US market.  If this really does happen, I wonder if it will have all 10 remixes as found on the promo, or maybe the live b-sides, or...?
Title: Re: Magnificent Remixes Promo CD
Post by: God, Part II on May 15, 2009, 12:06:16 PM
My suspicion is that it is the same as the 3-track EU single or, at best, a combination of the 3-track with the 2-track.  I'd be willing to bet big money that the promo remixes won't be there; considering that I spent $100 to get them on eBay (yeah, I got that situation worked out--the seller just had to relist the item), I'll actually be rather PO'd, if they are...
Title: Re: Magnificent Remixes Promo CD
Post by: morgan1098 on May 15, 2009, 12:38:43 PM
Yeah, back in the day, U2 CD singles for the US market would combine tracks from both versions of the international CD singles (the US "Stay" CD combined tracks from the international "Swing Format" and "Live Format" CDs; the US "Please" single had the single mix from the international "Please" single plus the live tracks from the "Popheart Live EP," etc.)

Still, regardless of what tracks are on it, the very thought that U2 might be releasing a CD single for the US market in 2009 is HUGE!   :o

I'll be very surprised... albeit pleasantly surprised... if this actually happens.  I sent an e-mail to MusicTap for further info/clarification.  We'll see.

I emailed Chris at The Ideal Copy to see if his distributor has any info.  I'll let you know if a turn up anything.

Here's Chris's response:

Quote
I checked with an alternate supplier and their data must have just come up tonight. it IS coming out. no details yet except the EP will cost around $8 and their title is "Magnificent Remixes" and i suspect it's the four remixes listed on the u2 site.

I just splurged 100 bucks on one of those promos myself, but a U2 EP released in the states makes up for it.  ;D

As long as EP does not contain everything that's on the $100 promo, I won't have to spread my arms wide and scream to the heavens, "Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!"

Being unable to afford anything over $20 has actually paid off for once! w00t!

And w00t also for a US cd-single!

Here's some more good news!!

Rumor is rampant that 1 out of every 10 Happy Meals served at the McDonalds in Tierra del Fuego will come freshly wrapped in non-drip cellophane inside a special U2 vinyl singles collector's cardboard clam shell case. Once the burger is eaten there's room for the four 7 inch singles. I'm hoping for confirmation on this from my friends in Argentina.

This should be a rarity because of the picture of Ronald McDonald holding a coctatoo on the top.

This is supposed to happen on June 16, around 9:05. AM or PM is still up in the air.

For those who might not make it, the sandwich (sans case) may be downloaded later on the Aku-Aku iTunes (if you have a Lithuanian Mastercard).

Amazon has posted a listing for the download EP, with the following tracklisting:

1. Magnificent (Dave Aude' Club Remix)
2. Magnificent (Fred Falke Full Club Mix)
3. Magnificent (Adam K and Soha Club Mix)
4. Magnificent (Wonderland Remix)
5. Magnificent (Redanka's 360 Version)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029RWYGK/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1242547274&sr=8-12

As long as the CD version sticks to this same tracklist, I won't need to kick myself for buying the promo.  ;D

Can anybody confirm if the real promo is a silver cd or a printed cdr? Got one of them off Ebay, there is somebody that has sold a number of them for $99.99. Got a e-mail from somebody who got one and said they are sure it is fake. Cover art is a semi rigid white card printed on one side, looks almost like the letters are raised from the card. Tray card is the same, there are "perforations" where the tray card folds into the 2 corners. The printing on the cd looks like that light scribe printing I think. Not really bold printing.

So what do you think?

I'm buy the same (Maybe from the same guy "oneofakind jewelry") on eBay.

I receive this mail this morning by another guy:

<< EVERYONE--Please READ:

This seller is a FRAUD.  I received my CD today, and it was a CD-R COPY of the REAL CD.  This CD is supposed to be a SILVER BOTTOM official CD.  You will notice too, that the graphics copied onto the CD are "blurred" by the seller, further indicating that this is a FAKE.

I have reported this to Ebay and Paypal, since this seller is using 2 Ebay IDs to sell these COPIES.  I urge you all to do the same, to protect your money and not get ripped off.

Regards,

SC>>

After i contact "oneofakind jewelry" by mail... and he send me this.

<<HI
This seller is wrong. It is NOT a CD-r. They ARE promotional cds, I know this for a fact.
If you are not happy when the Cd arrives you can return it and i will refund your money.
Sorry for all the troublw this transaction is causing you.
Thanks
Esther>>

I received mine yesterday, also from "Esther," though under a different eBay account.  Mine is a CD-R as well.  The fact that the seller is using multiple accounts is in itself highly suspicious.

I've ordered a second copy from a seller that I know to be reputable, so we shall see what I get.

Esther is my seller too...
Title: Re: Magnificent Remixes Promo CD
Post by: Brad on May 17, 2009, 03:26:23 PM
All,

I do not know that we should be panicking by what yseilys friend says in his email.

I have in my collection a copy of the one-track Magnificent promo from Interscope. I bought it from a reputable dealer with whom I have traded for years.

This promo is also a green CD-R and appears to be of the exact same brand as the Remixes promo. There is a custom-printed sticker on both CDs with some amount of dithering (not blurring) of the text and graphics that is about the same on both examples.

Similarly, the card stock and printing for the tray card and insert appear to be the same.

"Esther" is incorrect in saying that these are not CD-R as they clearly are, but that does not necessarily mean that it is a fake. Interscope has been issuing promos on CD-R at least as far back as Electrical Storm and I have several in my collection.

As I said, it is suspicious that "Esther" is trading under multiple eBay accounts, and I can't say for sure that these CDs are legit, but the quality of this promo appears to be the same as other CD-R promos I have from Interscope.

If anyone in fact knows of the existence of silver CD copies of this promo, then I would be much more suspicious.

Exactly why I already ripped it with Exact Audio Copy and backed it up to FLAC, but, yeah, disappointing not to have a real CD.  As I said, I've ordered another from a legitimate reseller, so I'll see what I end up with .

My "non-Esther" copy is indeed a professionally produced CD-R. The spine has U2CDMREMIX in addition to the Interscope catalog number INTR-12601-2. Serial number is 6K863C0125180.

Update: I've been trying to find out the brand of CD-R but Nero InfoTool keeps crashing. :P  Well, good to see your copy is likely from the same original source as mine, Brad.

It looks very professionally done.  I can only assume this is an official promo from Interscope, on CD-R.

I mean, what at the odds of "Esther" copying these onto CD-R's with serial numbers in the same series as the one Crayon received?

I should have another CD by the end of the week from another seller so I can compare the two.

A lot of the ebay auctions now mention that a lot of people think they're fake, but they assure the buyer it's a professionally issued CD-R from Interscope. Not that we should assume the auctions aren't lying, but it seemed worth mentioning.

So if the 80 at the end indicates CD-R size (80 minutes) - which is often the case - our copies would only be 40 apart.

Just to confirm, the CD-R the Magnificent Remixes was burned on is identical to the CD-R I have for the Magnificent one-track promo.

Both are from Taiyo Yuden Co, (http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-80-minute-700mb-52x-silver-inkjet-printable-100-pack.html?utm_source=googleBase&utm_medium=pcsite&utm_term=CD-001-0142-datafeed01&utm_content=datafeed01&utm_campaign=googleBase%20-%20CD) who sells CD-Rs under the JVC brand name as well as generics under their own brand name.

Interesting.  I also bought mine from Esther using Paypal, but Paypal hasn't contacted me about it.  Everything seems legit, but I was holding off on leaving feedback until I know for sure it's not a copy.  Seems like a lot of people jumped the gun when they saw it was a CD-R and cried "fake."

I received mine as well. Seems completely legal, despite being cd-r.

But to follow up on the numbers: my number is 6K863C0130680
Looking back in the previous replies, we so far have:

6K863C0125180   Crayon
6K863C0127880   yseilys
6K863C0127980   Brad
6K863C0129180   God, Part II
6K863C0130680   sleus

and if I remove the last two digits (80, being the lenght of the cd-r) and the firts 8 characters which are identical for every copy so far, that leaves us with the following sequence

251   Crayon
278   yseilys
279   Brad
291   God, Part II
306   sleus

I'm trying to figure out how many copies were printed. So the question is, where did they start? number 001?  Or perhaps 200?
And where does it end, 306 seems very unlikely to be the very last copy.

Looking at the numbers at least 55 copies were printed so it seems safe to say that at least 100 copies exist.

any thoughts?

251   Crayon
278   yseilys
279   Brad
291   God, Part II
306   sleus
308   Aaron

Your friend's one however seems to come from a different batch. Makes me wonder...

My assumption is that 6K, or maybe 6K8, is standard to these discs, the next three digits are a variable we haven't identified yet, and the disc numbering is really going:

01251
01278
01279
01291
01306
01308

I didn't buy it on amazon because as of the day of release here in the US, amazon still had the wrong track listing and I wasn't sure what I'd be getting if I ordered online.

So I bought it at my local indie record store for 8.99.  Still not a bad deal, and it felt good supporting an actual brick-and-mortar record store.

what is the difference with Amazon's track listing (sorry i'm not familiar with that issue..)? - here is the one from Canada's Amazon:

1. Magnificent [Edit]
2. Magnificent [Dave Aude' Club Remix]
3. Magnificent [Dave Aude' Club Dub Remix]
4. Magnificent [Fred Falke Full Club Mix]
5. Magnificent [Adam K and Soha Club Mix]
6. Magnificent [Adam K and Soha Dub Mix]
7. Magnificent [Wonderland Remix]
8. Magnificent [Wonderland Dub Remix]
9. Magnificent [Redanka's 360 Version]
10. Magnificent [Redanka's 180 Version]

It's been corrected now but, up until the release date, it only showed five tracks.

Yes, up until the release date, no one was really sure if the 10-track CD was going to be released at all.  A lot of online sites kept changing their information... The Ideal Copy posted the 10-track CD early on, then changed it and said, "No, the CD will actually only be 5 tracks," and now they have changed their listing back to the 10-track version.

I'll let you know when I get mine then.... anyone know if the regular 2-track and 3-track singles will ever be released in Canada? they're a no-show on the usual online sites, and i don't feel like paying US shipping for these.. not yet rather..

I wouldn't count on a Canadian release. It's been well over a month since those singles were released in Europe, and they've already moved on to talking up the next single.

Although, Magnificent has had such a strange roll-out that nothing would surprise me at this point.

There's not going to be a Canadian single.  They also skipped CD singles in the UK, Australia and Japan this time around.  Brad's right, they've already started the promotion and decisions for the next single.  I doubt you'll see additional Magnificent material after this US release.

all right then, now what about this Magnificent EP? what is the 4th track?
Amazon lists the following :

1. Magnificient (Edit)
2. Vertigo (Live Summerville Theatre, Boston)
3. Get On Your Boots (Justic Remix)
4. TBC

???

That was the UK single that was cancelled before it was released.  If you order the four track, you will find they will not fulfill your order.  It didn't come out.  There wasn't a release of a four track CD single.

Hi,
Long-time U2 forum poster, but first time poster here.

I'm in Canada.  I still haven't got the Magnificent CDs from Europe yet.  I'm trying to find a good deal to get both discs (and not the 2-track slipcase).  Did anyone find a good, low-cost online store to order from?

Thanks.

I'm in Canada also and looking to buy online but can't find them anywhere. I can only find the 10 track CD and that's it. Very annoying. And it's too expensive on Ebay still... maybe with time..

for those of you who are still looking for the "regular singles", this fellow in the Netherlands has a few copies left of each:

http://stores.shop.ebay.com/grooves-inc__W0QQ_armrsZ1

for me, from Canada, this was cheaper than getting them from Amazon.com in the US... go figure.

Not really.  Getting them from Amazon.com means you're paying double shipping in a way.  Amazon has to import them from Europe, which drives up the cost, then to send them out to Canada you again pay shipping.

For those keeping track: it seems that the Fred Falke Radio Edit (found on the Danish 7-track promo CD) and the Fred Falke Radio Mix (part of the Masterbeat.com download single) are the same.  While the Edit is 4:04 and the Mix is 3:59, after comparing them in Adobe Audition it is clear to me that they are identical, minus the Edit having an additional 1 second of lead-in time and 4 seconds more muted lead-out time. For me, it's always nice to know that the best available version of a track is CD-quality.

Unrelated, but of great historical significance, is my first forum post just three posts above, exactly 100 posts ago.

For me too. Nice to know that there's no another mix to find  ;D Is this the same version, as on Artificial Horizon?

I don't know how I missed that.  It probably is.  I'm away from my music for a couple of weeks, so I can't answer this until then.

It was available on some European FLAC stores if you are looking for an uncompressed version (Qobuz being one).

If you are talking about "Magnificent (U.K Edit)"... U.K silver pressed promotional issues and CD single have this version.
