Title: Two Hearts Beat As One (War album)
Post by: rivergoat on December 27, 2003, 12:37:11 AM
I seem to be the only person who hears this line differently:

(everyone else's lyrics)
They say I'm a fool
They say I'm nothing
But if I'm a fool for you
Well, that's something

(my ears hear)
They say I'm a fool
They say I'm not for you
But if I'm a fool for you
Well, that's something

it's certainly more poetic, and it fits right in with that whole verse

I'd have to disagree with you on this one.  It falls outside how Bono usually rhymes on the song and the original meaning is actually more poetic in sense to me.  "I may be a foolish nobody, but if I love you, that is something"  it adds to the singer's existence some meaning which was lacking before.

Hee hee }:)~ Alright, I look at it this way:

"So all your friends think I'm a fool, maybe that's just the effect you have on me, and I'll be a fool for you if it wins your heart."

I don't know if this thread should be in this forum or in interpretations now! ;)

I gotta put my hoof down on this one... the problem is that there's three syllables at the end of that second line, not two (after "they say I'm...")... grrr....
