Title: Artificial Horizon
Post by: Aaron on February 26, 2015, 12:50:38 PM
Did anyone miss getting a copy of Artificial Horizon on triple purple vinyl?  Anyone still looking for this?

So much for the original "ARTIFICIAL HORIZON on triple vinyl is available for a strictly limited period. This one-off vinyl edition of Artificial Horizon will be pressed up on MAY 14th 2010, the day orders close, and mailed to customers immediately after manufacturing."

The original website claimed it was "only available until May 14".

I successfully ordered one.  No digital download of "Unknown Caller" though so don't expect one.

??? This is like when new copies of Zoo TV Live suddenly turned up a couple years ago at the fan club. But yeah, this is even weirder because at least Zoo TV Live wasn't limited to "one day only."

It wasn't limited to one day only.  They took orders up to May 14th.  So it was available for a number of weeks to pre-order.

The third line on this page was pretty descriptive though.  (above the photo)

I never got the LP version of this. What are those things with snippets of the original single covers? Are those the three inner sleeves for the vinyl?

I waited until mine shipped before I put up the notice.  Wanted to make sure the order didn't get cancelled and that I hadn't found some bug.  But no.  Shipped to me just fine.  :)  Wait is on for it to arrive.  Glad I could help.

I never bought this one because I have most of the songs already throughout the years but it is a nice companion piece to Melon. I understand Aaron's frustration about the limitedness of this but U2.com have done other frustrating things over time. I resubscribed last week to them and didn't get any new presale codes and if I had used an alias I would have been able to access to the last MSG show. Go figure....

Mine arrived in fine shape, very well packaged, actually. I'm kind of shocked at how quick it got here.

I'm curious how things like this happen. Like with the Zoo TV live re-release a couple years ago, there's no way they did a second pressing of this. I guess it really does just mean they found some old stock in a warehouse somewhere. But that seems kind of hard to believe as well.

When this originally was done - the vinyl was offered well past the May 14 cut off date.  It was sold in the store long past that, leading me to believe at the time that a quantity had been pressed for sale...and not just the preorder numbers were pressed.  Looks like they didn't sell out, as this one popping up again shows.

With the fan club subs it's probably hit or miss.  They have to judge how many copies they will need to get them through a years worth of people subscribing.  U22, From the Ground Up, and North And South were all offered again in later years as a plus to the fan club gift or instead of.  I'm willing to bet things only become limited in years when you have a lot of people subscribing for ticket offers, and the years in between are leaner...

So when I saw this I forwarded the link to a friend and he ordered as well. He received his on Monday, but he told me tonight that his copy is all black vinyl. I think he's disappointed that it's not purple, but I figure even if his black version is be a misprint or something else, either way it's probably pretty rare, no?

Tell your friend to put the vinyl near a light. Then look at it. That is when you notice the purple. It's really nice looking. That should do it.

Not a candle or a heat lamp, though, mind you.

:-\ I traded one of my Wide Awake In Europe for a Sealed copy of AF...yeah, I know I made a Mistake: they're not the same value, but  I wanted that 3LP...anyway, transatlantic trade or purchase involving heavy-weight packages can be very risky, and this was the case as the package took forever to arrive with a very noticeable bump over one corner.

Worried for the damaged, I needed to remove the shrinkwrap to verify contents, that bump is reflected over the jacket and the three inner sleeves. Even Worse: the side 'E' & 'F' both first tracks, each side (GOYB & SATS) had repeated skips as I played in my turntable.

So, I traded a highly collectable numbered EP for a sealed copy of a 3LP that I could have bought recently by a fair price;now  I'm  stuck with a very damaged copy, unplayable and according must of Vinyl Records Collectors isn't worth more than a few bucks, so I can even sell it for a fair amount.

When this 3LP was originally put on sale at U2.com, there was a "first come, first serve" on ordering the set when you pre-order it; I received back then an e-mail claiming that they couldn't complete my order because they ran out of Lps, so they offered me to change my order for another goods or get a refund; I choose a 360° Tour 11x11 calendar and a 360° tour navy blue cap instead (that came oversized, as I am bald, never fit so  I never wore it)...so finally I'm noticing that this release practically, isn't one of my favs.

Santiago, I think that is a reasonable trade.
