Title: Band Aid 30
Post by: Aaron on November 10, 2014, 02:13:19 PM
After his appearances in Band Aid, and Band Aid 25, looks like Bono is back for #BandAid30.  This time it's being recorded to help the Ebola issue in Africa.  Bob Geldof and Midge Ure are back on the project.

The new version will be recorded this Saturday and should be available for download on Monday morning. A physical version of the song will be released three weeks later and will feature cover artwork designed by artist Tracey Emin. The record is being produced by Paul Epworth.

The download will cost 99p, while the CD single will retail for £4.

So far, confirmed artists include U2's Bono, Chris Martin of Coldplay, Emeli Sande, Underworld, Sinead O'Connor, Paloma Faith, Foals and Bastille, who have given up two arena dates to record their contribution.

Geldof and Ure said that other musicians would be added in due course.

Versions will also be recorded in France, Germany and the US. "Think Daft Punk. Think Johnny Hallyday," said Geldof.

Geldof said that changes to the lyrics include "burning suns", due to the fertile landscape of West Africa compared to drought-stricken Ethiopia of 1984.

Acts confirmed so far:
One Direction, Adele, Ed Sheeran, Bastille, Foals, Elbow, Ellie Goulding, Emelie Sandé, Sam Smith, Olly Murs, Bono and Chris Martin, Jessie Ware, Paloma Faith

Florence Welch, Ben Howard are on the rumored list.

Rita Ora originally said she would take part, but contracts with the Voice UK have left her unable, although Geldof has reached out to that show for their participation.  He's also reached out to David Bowie to introduce the video, as he did on the original.

Physical single will contain remixes by Underworld and Disclosure according to this article and will be out on December 8.  The song will not be available to Spotify and other streaming services until January.  Apparently the digital copy is selling very well and is one of the biggest sellers of the year in the UK.

Not sure what this article is. I ordered the official CD release (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Do-They-Know-Its-Christmas/dp/B00PGYFF50/ref=sr_1_1_twi_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1418822564&sr=8-1&keywords=band+aid+30), which arrived yesterday, and the track listing is:

1. Band Aid 30: Do They Know It's Christmas? (2014)
2. Band Aid 20: Do They Know It's Christmas? (2004)
3. Band Aid II: Do They Know It's Christmas? (1989)
4. Band Aid: Do They Know It's Christmas? (1984)

Hmm, I thought that was the German CD. Tracklisting is the same. I have a rip of the German one. Don't know if this is the original? Haven't heard that.

I think God Part II was asking about the CD with remixes by Underworld and Disclosure. There's the four-track UK CD, there are various iterations of the German version (one of which also includes the 4 UK tracks), but as far as I can see there is no CD with remixes on it.

Yeah no sign of the remixes.  Must not have worked out for them.  That article was published before the final track list on the CD was made public.  So maybe it was the plan and they went with the old versions instead?

An even earlier version spoke about single artists recording the whole song for b-sides, but that didn't happen either.

In Germany it was a five track with the German version first.  The UK version was a four track, without the German version.  I believe there was also a French version done.  But on none of them do the remix appear.  So maybe it was just junked?

I ordered the CD from the Band Aid site the day they posted it. I got a shipping notification on December 4 but still haven't received the CD. I assume it's the UK version.

No. But one might say he's there in spirit. 'We let in light', 'Throw your arms around the world'

This one's a hard call.  I'm tempted to leave mention of this one out.

You can actually find the 4-track version of this in Best Buy stores here in the USA. I saw it over the weekend. It's in a standard jewel case. I didn't look at it very closely; it might have been an EU pressing. But it looked domestic to me.

I found a copy here in Canada too.  Different catalog number than the version from the UK I got.  I'm assuming it's from a domestic run on the CD, but I can't open it because it's a present from my mom.  :)

I ended up getting the UK and US versions of the single. Same tracklisting and even UPC code, but the US version is in a standard jewel case and the UK version is in a slim jewel case. They do have different catalog numbers and the US release is on Virgin while the UK release is on Virgin/Universal.
