Title: New Release: "Dance (RED) Save Lives"
Post by: Aaron on November 20, 2012, 10:40:06 AM
U2's Bono joins forces with Tiësto to remake "Pride (In the Name of Love" for new dance compilation to support the (RED) campaign.  Album is due to be released November 27, 2012.  (Next week)

(RED) have announced a collaboration with one of the world’s leading DJs and electronic dance music pioneers, Tiësto.

Next Tuesday, November 27, Tiësto will release an exclusive compilation album, DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES, followed by a global livestream – powered by YouTube - from Melbourne’s Stereosonic Festival over World AIDS Day weekend on December 1st and 2nd.

The compilation features artists including Calvin Harris, Avicii and Diplo, as well as an exclusive collaboration between Tiësto and Bono on U2's 'Pride'.

Mobilizing the huge global community of dance music fans in the fight against AIDS, Tiësto and his fellow DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES artists will livestream their sets from the Stereosonic Festival on YouTube, bringing fans an unforgettable live global music experience. The stream will be available at www.youtube.com/joinred.

The announcement comes as (RED) and its partners mark an important milestone in the fight against AIDS, having generated $200 million for the Global Fund.

Speaking about his collaboration with (RED), Tiësto  said; “When I went to Africa in 2006, I was struck by the devastating effect of AIDS. Now the world has an incredible chance to make sure that babies are born HIV free by 2015, and the dance community is going to make a lot of noise to help make this happen.”

The war against AIDS faces a critical battle: to deliver the first AIDS Free Generation since HIV was diagnosed 31 years ago. In 2003, new childhood HIV infections peaked with more than 1,500 babies born with HIV every day. For only 40 cents a day, mothers can be treated to prevent transmission to their unborn children, and just over 900 babies are now born daily with the virus. By 2015, that number can be near zero. Ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV is a component of the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Deborah Dugan, CEO of (RED), said “Tiësto represents a generation of young music fans with incredible passion and energy. We want to tap into that passion to help deliver an AIDS free generation by 2015; a monumentally important milestone in the fight against AIDS. What Tiësto and his friends in the dance music community are bringing to this fight is invaluable. They bring the kind of heat that is so desperately needed to keep this issue at the top of the agenda. This World AIDS Day, I want fans to buy the album and DANCE (RED), SAVE LIVES!'

(RED) was founded in 2006 by Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage business in the fight against AIDS. It partners with  iconic global brands who contribute up to 50% of profits from (RED) branded goods and services to the Global Fund  to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Maybe my reading comprehension skills have taken a dip, but I don't see clarification--is this one of those miserable "digital download only" affairs, or will there be an actual pressed CD I can buy?

I've looked around all the publicity for the project and I've seen nothing to suggest that it will be digital only.  If anyone spots one please let us know.  Right now I'm checking Amazon and HMV to see if a product listing shows up.

All of the press is using a November 27th date, so I expect that means it will be released in the North American Market regardless (Tuesday is release day here), if it was coming out first in Europe it should be listed as a Nov. 26th date.

First the WTSHNN Olympic Remix, now this!  Before long we'll be able to make our own HI-NRG U2 remix comp.  :)

A Youtube commercial for the project. No word on where the album will be released, or where to buy, which makes me think it will be a wide release.  Still no signs of any links on amazon us / ca that i could find...

There's a "buy album" link here: http://www.joinred.com/worldaidsday/

So far it just links to the (RED) blog, though.

I think this was ripped from U2.com.

This is the first article I've seen that explicitly says this is an iTunes exclusive.

Just downloaded the album from iTunes. It appears to be identical to the U2.com stream.

It's not available in the US Store this morning, either.

I bought it on my phone last night about 8:15 PST (11:15 EST), but by the time I got home 2 hours later, only 3 tracks were available on iTunes, and this morning it's gone completely.

Interesting.  I'm pulling up tracks when I search. (two tracks, neither of them the U2 song.) But when I try to click on them...I get the message not available in canadian store.  Maybe there was an issue with the encode and they haven't gotten a fixed copy up yet?  Or some other legal issue with somethign not cleared?

(RED) has sent out emails to readers of one of their subscription lists stating they are working with iTunes to fix the problem and that the tracks should be available again soon.  No word on what the actual issue is.

I listened to the first 6 or 7 tracks on the way to work and there didn't seem to be any problems.

Again...

It's sure messing up the launch of the album. Lots of moaning about why it's not available in each country...since the error version seems to be a regional one. I've tried throughout the day and can't get one that lets me buy...

Looks like they have most of the album back up now; just missing a couple of tracks. I listened to what I downloaded last night all the way through and there didn't seem to be any problems.

Not really my cup of tea...

Also, the tracks were available individually last night for $0.69. Now it looks like everything is "album only." At least it's for a good cause.
