Title: Films of Innocence / Songs of Innocence +
Post by: Aaron on November 18, 2014, 06:49:46 AM
First of all looks like there was a video companion to "Songs of Innocence" afterall, titled "Films of Innocence" and it's coming out in December:

http://www.atu2.com/news/u2-films-of-innocence-movie-available-on-itunes-december-9th.html

From iTunes:
11 of the world's most acclaimed urban artists unveil their work through a collection of art films, inspired by U2's Songs of Innocence. Taking the political murals of Northern Ireland as a reference point, U2 pioneered the project to celebrate the unique democratic power of urban art. Oliver Jeffers, Robin Rhode, D*Face, Mode 2, Chloe Early, Ganzeer, Vhils, Maser, ROA, DALeast, and Todd James make up this global multidisciplinary group project.

Also from iTunes....

Last night I got my notification that the rest of the tracks from "Songs of Innocence +" were available to download.  Anyone who ordered the second disc that way should check their available downloads this morning.  For those that aren't aware, iTunes made the second disc of the deluxe set available as a separate album.  They called it "Songs of Innocence +" and a number of the acoustic tracks were made available as a download the same day the rest of the world got the commercial release of the album.  The rest of the tracks become available today...although i don't seem to have gotten the digital booklet that was promised with this release...odd...

As a devotee of physical media, if FILMS OF INNOCENCE remains exclusive to iTunes, I'm going to see (RED).

My theory is that FOI is the latest subscriber gift that was supposed to be announced this week before an unfortunate smelting or biking accident. Does anyone have any clearer idea if it is connected to U2? What if it just a tribute by some connected fans who make video?

Did get a digital booklet with Songs of Innocence + - just had to give it a nudge.  It's the same as the CD booklet for the most part.  No extra content of note.

Hey folks, longtime reader, first time poster. :)

All the Films Of Innocence are online right now (links and bonus subscriber video at U2.com), but the most notable info for me is that the audio for the Every Breaking Wave video (http://www.complex.com/music/2014/12/u2-every-breaking-wave-video-premiere) is definitely different than the album version. Different lyrics in all kinds of places, different musical bits scattered throughout. I like the lyrics of the album version better, but some of the musical touches are nice on this. Hopefully someone can capture high-quality audio from the video in case they don't officially release this mix.

What was replaced? EBW? Or Crystal Ballroom? Was there an exclusive video not available on iTunes Dec. 9th?

I'm not a member of U2.com.

;) Thanks Zbych. And thanks Nikabrik for the heads up. Interesting. I was hoping there might be different mixes on the videos. I'll check out the iTunes stuff later tonight.

Dang! Did anyone capture either of these alternate mixes in audio form? I haven't even had time to watch the videos yet.

Yeah, today was wife appreciation day and a visit to a nice chocolate shop where they make it and sell it right there, so this little U2 mystery was of little consequence... if you feel me...

Ok, that last link from miryclay is actually the album version and not a different mix. So the first one Nikabrik was talking about IS an alternative mix. I have that alternative mix. It has a bit more Edge going on at times in the right channel, just before and during the chorus, "If you go...", and Bono sings 3 different lines in the chorus.

Baby every dog on the street
Knows we got a hunger to feed
In between the night and its need
We go chasing every breaking wave

It is very interesting. That awkward use of (de---feat) is changed, but 'every dog on the street' stays the same. Or maybe this 'alternative' mix was first and then modified. Who knows?

Where did this one come from? Was/Is this alt. version ever streaming on U2.com? Or just on Vimeo? The other curious thing is you hear Robin Rhode say., " This is a waternark for Robin Rhode." He says that at the beginning and again later. So I believe this is certainly legit U2, but not meant for release...you wouldn't hear a watermark announced like that, lol.
Ah...somebody made a mistake putting this version online.

Ok, thx to Sparko from U2T... it is secured, I shall rip the audio from mp4 file in about 7-10 hours when at home. The differences are noticable at first listen.

What probably happened was that they gave him an early version and changed it at the last minute. The u2.com links are only links to platform sites. What does the video artwork contain? Any extras from those who bought?

The mix was probably an early mix given to the artists before the completion of the album.  They were probably watermarked by the U2 gang to prevent the artist from leaking the track in anyway, and the fact that the artist is mentioned by name, if it leaked they would have known where it came from.  It was quickly removed from the site and replaced with the video with the album mix of EBW, and that is also the version found in the paid version on iTunes.  So I think that was the intended video, and somehow an early rough version got out there...

Wow I am infinitely glad they went with the album version. I can't enjoy that chorus no matter how much I try. The lyrical differences don't hurt it, though, but I prefer "every dog on the street."

TIWYCRMN also has some added sound effects.
