Joshua Tree 20th Anniversary Edition
« on: September 20, 2007, 09:49:18 AM »
@U2 reports that there will be a Joshua Tree 20th Anniversary Edition coming out in November 07 in 3 configurations:

1) Remastered album w/ 24 page booklet
2) Deluxe edition 5" hardcover book with remastered album, bonus disc of rarities and booklet
3) Limited edition with all of the above plus DVD of a Joshua Tree-era concert recorded in Paris.

It's about time!  Despite all of the extras the thing I'm most excited about is a remastered version of the original album.  It really needs a sonic upgrade.

I agree -

The version that's on CD now sounds a little flat...So does The Unforgettable Fire. Oddly enough, I think Boy sounds just as good in 2007 as it did back in the day...

And no April Fool's this time. :)

I'm waiting for an offical announcement before I put this on the front page, but the upcoming releases flyer on u2tour.de looks to be for real.

Will be interesting to compare the new remaster to the MSFL release.

I can't wait to compare the "official" 7-4-87 show with the pro-shot boot.

If this track list proves correct... WOW.  What an amazing treat.

Some of those unreleased tracks on Disc 2 sound um, interesting.  I seem to remember something about Drunk Chicken from a U2 book... maybe U2 by U2 or even that dodgy biography that came out in the JT era.

I found that curious too. Though the covers don't appear on the tracklisting. Help is also missing.

Maybe there were problems securing the rights? I can't believe U2 couldn't afford the royalties???

Maybe they just needed the room for the other goodies on the DVD.

Maybe we'll never know. :)

But it's really an "amazing" release.

Maybe the "covers" are incorporated into the other songs?  For example, maybe the snippets of "Stand by Me" and "C'Mon Everybody" are on there, but they're just included with "I Will Follow" as Track 1 on the DVD.  Bono often includes snippets or even whole verses from other songs in his performances, but they are hardly ever listed as separate tracks, at least not on official releases.

Most US sites are still listing the release date as Novemeber 20, while many European sites say December 3.  I hope the November date is correct.  It seems inconceivable that the US could get this release two weeks prior to Europe.
