stuff that is iffy is bold. i'm using "whoa~" to approximate oh oh oh whoa w-w-w-whoa etc haha.
not posting it on the site/news because I don't like cease and desist letters. :-X
NO LINE ON THE HORIZON 2
I know a girl who’s like the sea
I watch her changing every day for me
Oh yeah
Whoa~
One day she’s still, the next she swells
You can hear the universe in her seashells
Oh yeah
Whoa~
No line on the horizon, no line
No line on the horizon, no line
I know a girl, hole in her heart
She said infinity's a great place to start
Oh no, you know it's gonna be our love
Too late you set me in the heart you sold me, lover
I wanna be the sea, you know
Save your love
Whoa~
No line on the horizon, no line
No line on the horizon, no line
Whoa~
The song in my head is no longer mine
I put you on pause
I try to rewind your love, and replay... hey
Every night, the same dream
I’m hatching some plot, scheming some scheme
Oh yeah
Whoa~
I’m a traffic cop, Rue du Marais
My sirens wailing, man it’s me that wants to get away
Whoa~
No, no line
No, no line
No, line on the horizon, no, no line
No, line on the horizon, no, no line
No line on the horizon, no, no line
PS - apparently Marais is the gay quarter of paris, but a friend that stayed there thinks that Rue du Marais doesn't exist there. It is a street in Brussels.
PPS - original try at the verse o' hurt:
The lady set me in the-
Heard you sounding lover-
I wanna be the sting in love's eye
i'm attaching a slowed down clip of that section - giving up for now, I think my mind is hearing that line the wrong way.
-
I'm eating supper and listening... ;D
-
BTW--Great catch on Rue de Marais :)
Maybe--"One day she's still, her neck she swells" I just can't hear "next"
Maybe--"I know a girl, whole in her heart" --I don't hear "a" before it
Then, "Oh, no, you know it's gonna be alone(?) --but makes no sense...it really sounds like "Oh, low"
Then the real interesting verse-- " The lady set me in the
Head you sell me, lover
I wanna be the sting in love
Say yo-lo-oh-oh
Oh-wo-oh-wo-oh-wo-oh-wo-oh, hoo
(Now I got a headache)
" I put you on pause, I
Try to rewind...
Alone and replay, hey"
And I'm hearing..."I'm a traffic car" ...just don't hear the "p" sound
(shoot me)
-
Maybe--"One day she's still, her neck she swells" I just can't hear "next"
Makes no sense lol. Sticking with mine. Though the second line of the song kinda sounds like:
I know a girl who’s like the sea
I watch him changing every day for me
So the swell of the neck... an adam's apple?! Fits with the Marais reference?
Maybe--"I know a girl, whole in her heart" --I don't hear "a" before it
Yeah no "a". Damnit. Now the question is begged, is it whole or hole?
Then, "Oh, no, you know it's gonna be alone(?) --but makes no sense...it really sounds like "Oh, low"
"our low" or "our love" i'm thinking.
Then the real interesting verse-- " The lady set me in the
Head you sell me, lover
I wanna be the sting in love
I feel good about the last line now, no idea on the first.
The ladies serve me in the, heard you selling lover
The latest set me in the head, you sell it lover
The latest shot me, in the head, you sell me lover
Alone and replay, hey
rewind our love I think
And I'm hearing..."I'm a traffic car" ...just don't hear the "p" sound
You're right. It's also "my siren's wailing"
-
"I watch him changing"---oh my...yep --I agree
This song is getting curiouser and curiouser
and remember--"The sea it swells, like a sore head"
baaa---"the sea's throat"...that's a line from TS Eliot...but the "sea's neck" ??
I feel like I'm spinning wheels now
Yeah--I like "my siren's wailing" which sounds a bit Irish--muh siren...me siren's wailing, tho Bono rarely lets the Brogue in
-
Wow. Never thought of that line from ES in that way. >_<
Take a listen at the slowed down clips I attached to the original post and see what you hear for the mumbly verse. :P
-
4 Quartets--Little Gidding, (the 4th)--part 5
Every phrase and every sentence is an end and a beginning,
Every poem an epitaph. And any action
Is a step to the block, to the fire, down the sea's throat
-
loop of death--LOL
"Two ladies set me in the head you sell me, lover"
"You ladies" ?
1st clip--
"You know it's gonna be our love" seems to at least make sense
(No sense in my transcription, no, no sense)
-
Yeah, I think that line might be a mystery...
What about the line after it?
I wanna be the sea, you don't say
vs.
I wanna be the sting in love
also the low/love from the verse before is in the longer mp3
-
Check this--
Two ladies fed me in the head you sold me, lover
I wanna be this thing, you know
Say (save) your love
-
Huh!
Two ladies fed me in the head you sold me, lover
(yeah I can hear that, maybe set over fed)
I wanna be this thing, you know
(still hear sea, definately NOT thing, I can go for know over don't)
Say (save) your love
I can now see this:
Who learned to set me in the head you sold me, lover
I wanna be the sea, you know
Save your love
You learned to set me in the heart you sold me, lover
I wanna beat the sea, you know
Save your love
Well then you set me in the heart you sold me, lover
I wanna beat the sea, you know
Save your love
-
Okay--I've got WM player at .6 speed, captain.
"I know this girl, holding her heart"
That might solve the whole/hole thing
-
I slowed down that part, I can hear it either way. Hmmm.
Listening to the walmart previews, this v2 mix was sped up. So that'll make it interesting to check up on later assuming the two have the same vocal parts.
-
yet maybe
Too late you set me in the heart you sold me, lover
I wanna be this, think you know
I really hear thissss think..I .hear the "K" sound
;D
-
YES! The first two words were bugging the heck out of me:
Too late you set me in the heart you sold me, lover
I wanna be (beat) the sea, you know
Save your love
Still not hearing think... kind of an "ng" sound. Possibly:
Too late you set me in the heart you sold me, lover
I wanna be this thing, you know
Save your love
Maybe a fresh listen in the morning?
Thanks for bouncing ideas back and forth, definately wouldn't have gotten this on my own. ;D
-
Well my first hearing included "hatching some bra" ...
I still hear "wanna be this thing"---
unless it's 'I wanna be this stink" (lol)
Oh well...reaching burn out
-
Well, going back to "traffic cop" after some feedback. :P
-
Yeah, you get to a point where you have to ignore what your ears tell you and go with common sense... :-\
-
FYI - atu2's http://www.atu2.com/lyrics/songinfo.src?SID=877
The lady sent me it
To hang your song in, lover
I wanna be the sea
You know, say you're alone
The last line is kind of interesting, but I don't hear the first two over what we've come up with. Though the verse before ending with:
Oh, no, you know
It's gonna be alone
Is interesting, never been totally happy with those lines. It still does sound more "ve" than "ne" at the end to me though.

During the official pre-release listening sessions the lyrics were handed out. These are showing up on forums. I'm wondering if some of these were not returned. Or else some people have astounding memories. ::)
Hmmm. I'm sure Bono is proud of his writing, but maybe he realizes there is some "fuzziness" in the vocals as they come across in the context of the instrumental background. But part of this is also due to poor enunciation. On this track he doesn't seem to finish the ends of his words.
I'm going to wait for the CD single and vinyl to show up in my mailbox. I just got a shipping notice this morning. ;)

The "released" lyrics show a totally different verse for the one in question. So either they're crap (like the official gone lyrics) or the album version has a different vocal take. The pause/rewind section is also radically different.
I'm not posting them because cease and desist letters are a pain the ass.
