Title: Magnificent stems
Post by: Crayon on May 17, 2009, 06:29:48 PM
Here's a photo of a CD-R I'd like to get my hands on. 8)

It contains the individual stems, or tracks, that makes up Magnificent. The photo comes from a DJ who was asked to create a remix. Just imagine what would happen if this turned up on ebay. ;)

Well, the kindest remixers might torrent this kind of thing. That would be far more affordable for the whole community.

Z000: I was joking on the ebay part, of course. You wouldn't get many repeat job offers were you to leak that kind of material, I'm sure. Kindness to the whole of the internet community or not.  ;)

yseilys: The stems are, I assume, the individually recorded tracks of Adam, Bono, Larry and The Edge, overdubs, Lanois, Eno, etc.

The Stems are usually the individual "tracks" used to mix a track.  Sometimes it's just a single instrument, part of the vocals etc.  Bloc Party just made the stems available for three of their recent album tracks, and it was fascinating to hear what was split apart into each of these stems, and how many "layers" goes into a song...
