From the video streaming at wolfgangsvault.com
This is the classic Boy Tour show, often referred to as 'the night the lights went out in San Francisco',
one of the best U2 video 'bootlegs', a complete show btw, and a real jewel for fans who enjoy this period.
Probably eveyone has watched this already, but if you haven't you're in for a treat.
http://u2tours.com/detail.src?ID=19810515
It has been streaming for the last several months at the Wolfgang's Vault website
with a bit better video than your old VHS bootleg, though it's otherwise identical.
It's not currently available to purchase as a download.
There's an interesting fan review here:
http://www.u2gigs.com/show373.html
Highlights:
An early version of 'I Fall Down', which Bono calls, "When I Fall Down", after describing it
as being written on the tour bus. This is before Edge played piano for this song. The lyrics are...
spontaneous.
There's an over-the-top version of Boy / Girl which includes a 'Let's Twist Again'
snippet as Bono dances with a little girl on his shoulders, and the lighter trick.
Plus you got Larry looking about 15,
(http://i46.tinypic.com/2ywcw92.jpg)
The Edge starting off in coat and tie, and the lights going off and on which forces Bono
to banter with the crowd to kill time --and that wonderful nonsense verse in Another Time Another Place.

11 O’clock Tick Tock (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [4:44]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Well…it’s…11 O’clock Tick Tock
Well it's cold outside
And it gets so hot in here
And the boys and girls collide
To the music in my ear
I hear the children crying
And I know it's time to go
But I hear the children crying
Take me home…ah
A painted face
And I know we haven't long
We thought that we had the answers
It was the questions we had wrong
I hear the children crying
And I know it's time to go
But I hear the children crying
Take me home
Same song, sad song
Same song, sad song
Two-three-four
La-la-la-la, la-la-la...etc.
Same song, sad song
Same song, sad song
Two-three-four
Someone in love
Da-da-da...
Shuh-shuh-shuh...
Bing-bong-dong
Boom-bam-bim-dong
Call out your name
Call out in shame
Call out insane
Call out, you’d better call out
Call, call, call out
Feel it, ah, ah
Thank you

I Will Follow (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [3:53]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Do you know what I’m talking about?
I Will Follow
I was on the outside
When you say you say you needed me
I was looking at myself
I was blind, could not see, oh
A boy tries hard to be a man
His mother takes him by his hand
If he stops to think, he starts to cry
Oh why
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
Follow
I was on the inside
When they pulled the four walls down
I was looking through the window
I was lost, I am found
Walk away, walk away
Walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will…follow
Shh…
Your eyes make a circle
And I see you when I go in here, hmm
But it’s your eyes
But it’s your eyes
But it’s your eyes
Your...your eyes
La-la-la-la-la-lo
Oh
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
I will follow
I will follow
I will follow
I will… follow
Thank you

I Fall Down (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [3:07]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
We’re traveling in a big bus
Across your country for the last two months
And we ah, we actually rehearse in the back of this bus
This is the result of that
It’s called, When I Fall Down
Okay
Julie wake up
Well I’m getting nowhere
I wrote the letter
You’d getting somewhere soon
She’s getting higher
She’s on fire
She’s getting higher
She fall down
She fall down
She fall down
She fall down, oh
Julie wake up
Julie tell this story
I wrote the letter
You were telling you’re somewhere soon
She’s getting higher
She’s on fire
She’s getting higher
She fall down
She fall down
She fall down
She fall down, ah
She fall down
She fall down
She fall down
She fall down
When you fall down
When you fall down
When you fall down
You fall down
Ha...ha...
Down

An Cat Dubh (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [4:33]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Say goodnight
She waits for me to put out the light
When I’m still
She waits to break my will
Yo-oh-oh...
Yo-oh-oh...
Yes and I know the truth
About you
She-cat
And in the daylight
A blackbird makes a violent sight, ah-ah-ah
When she is done
Well she sleeps beside the one
Yo-oh-oh...
Yo-ho-ho...
Yes and I know the truth about you
She-cat
Yo-oh-ho...
Yo-oh-oh...
Yo-oh-oh...
Yes and I know the truth about you
Me and you, ah
Get up, get up, get up
Open, feel it
Missed the phone, been too long
You’ve been hiding away-hey
Away-hey
Away-hey

Into The Heart (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [3:07]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Into the heart
Of a child
I stay a while
But I can go back
Into the heart
Of a child
I can smile
I can see my way
Into the heart
Into the heart of a child
I can go back
I can see my faith
Into the heart
Into the heart of a child
Yo-ho-ho...wo-wo
Into the heart
What a heart
Such a heart
Such a heart
Tonight, you are a heavy light
Tonight, just for tonight
Thank you very much
Oh, it’s a long way to Tipperary

California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Touch!
(Let’s go The Edge)
This is The Edge who’s holding you up
Touch
Ah
Thank you
And don't mention it
Pleased to meet you
Don't think I'm very good at this, I wish
I just wanna know
I just wanna go
Huh
Fa-fa-fa-falling
The twenty-second floor
Keep on calling
I can’t see what I’m for
I just wanna know
I just wanna go
Home
I’m t-t-touching you
I’m t-t-touching you
I’m t-t-touching you, ah
(Bird sounds)
She go, she say, she know, she-cat
Home, it’s where I wanna be
I’m t-t-touching you, I’m trying to
I’m t-t-touching you, oh-oh-ho
I’m t-t-touching you
I’m t-t-touching you
I’m t-t-touching you
I’m t-t-touching you
I’m t-t-touching you
T-t-touching you, I’m trying to
Thank you

Another Time, Another Place (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [4:21]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Another Time, Another Place
Bright morning lights
Wipe the sleep from another day's eye
Turn away from the wall and there's nothing at all
Being naked and afraid
In the open space of my bed
I'll be with you now
But I'll be with you now
But I'll be with you now
We lay on a cloud
We lay
Just as I am
I awoke with a tear on my tongue
I awoke with a feeling never before
In my sleep, I discover the one
Well she ran with the morning sun
I'll be with you now
But I'll be with you now
But I’ll be with you now
We lay on a cloud
We lay, la-la-la-la
Another time, another place
We lay
Another time, another place
We lay
Another child has lost the race
We lay
Your time, your place
Oh, we lay
Another time, another place
We lay
Another child has lost it
Aber ja, Lust and Wahr*
Zweibel nicht behaben
Ich wergen ha
Lust and Wahr
So-so
We lay
Another time, another place
We lay
Your time, your place
Your place
*I transcribed this verse as if Bono were using a fake German I like to refer to as 'Bono-deutsch', a language that he and Adam might have joked around with in German class together. See U2 By U2. It's total nonsense though there are a couple words that could be real German. I've collected and transcribed almost every available live version of ATAP and may publish my conclusions in an upcoming volume of the “World Almanac of Absolutely Useless and Fatuous Facts”.

The Cry / Electric Co. (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [4:50]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Somebody cry, somebody cry, somebody cry
Somebody’s eye, somebody’s eye, somebody’s eye
Don’t you walk back, don’t you walk back, don’t you walk back
Somebody cry, somebody cry, somebody cry
Well I can’t say why I’m waiting
Ooo
Ooo
Feel it
Hey
Boy, stupid boy
Don't sit at the table until you're able to
Toy, broken toy
Shout and shout, you're inside out
If you don't know
Electric Co. /Electric Co.
If you don't know / Electric Co.
Electric Co.
(What for)
Red, running red
When you play for real, the toy could feel
Hole in your head
Well you go in shock, you’re spoon fed
If you don't know
Electric Co. / Electric Co.
If you don't know / Electric Co.
Electric Co.
Oy
Two-three-four
Gliding inside of myself
You’re in the crowd
Bring on the crowd
I need a crowd
Come on down here
Open
Open
Open
But if you don't know
Electric Co. / Electric Co.
But if you don't know
Electric Co. / Electric Co.
But if you don't know
Electric Co. / Electric Co.
But if you don't know / Electric Co.
Electric Co.

Stories for Boys (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [3:25]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
How ya doing? Good evening
We’re ah, we’re called U2 and we come from Dublin in Ireland
And ah, there’s one thing we don’t usually do, which is, um
Introduce the members of the band, but as The Edge is stalling for time
I might as well introduce The Edge, Larry, Adam…
And I’m Bono and this is Stories for Boys
One-two-three-four
Oh
There’s a place I go when I am far away
There’s a radio and I will glow
Sometimes the hero takes me
Sometimes I can’t let go
Hello, hello… hello
There’s a picture book with coloured photographs
There’s a comic strip that makes me laugh
Sometimes the hero takes me
Sometimes I can’t let go
Hello, hello
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Ooo….
(The lights go out)
There’s a place I go and now the lights are low
I can’t see a thing but then it’s feeling
Sometimes when I get nowhere
Sometimes I can’t see where I’m going
Hello, hello
(The lights come back on)
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Stories for boys
Thank you

Boy/Girl (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [4:04]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Boys and girls
Boy-girl
Boy-girl
When a boy meets a girl
Boy-girl
What time is it?
Finding out
Finding out things that I've been talking about
Finding out things that I've been missing out
Finding out things, I lose my mind
Sometimes I fall behind
You and I
We live on the big ship, time goes by
You make up, I believe a lady's lie
Your skin is colored strawberries and cream
Sometimes I scream
Boy-girl,
Boy-girl
When a boy meets a girl
Boy-girl
Do it
Dance it
Hello
Oh let’s twist again, like we did last summer
Excuse me
We go out
Picture, disco, roundabout
Walk you home, hold you and you're giving out
I open doors so I can shut your face
Know your place
Feel it
Boy-girl
Boy-girl
A boy meets a girl
Boy-girl
Good
Boy-girl
Boy-girl
A boy meets a girl
Boy-girl
Boy-girl
A boy meets a girl
Boy-girl
Boy-girl
When a boy meets, when a boy meets
When a boy meets… a girl

Out Of Control (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [5:11]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
We’re going home now
Goodnight
What can I say?
Out of Control
Take the walls down
Monday morning
Eighteen years of dawning
I say how long / How long
I say how long / How long
It was one dull morning
Woke the world with bawling
I was so sad / So sad
They were so glad / So glad
I was of the feeling it was out of control
You say, out of control
Oo-ho-ho
Um-ho-ho
Boys and girls
Go to school and girls
Well they make children
Not like this one
I was of the feeling it was out of control
You said, out of control
Ooo-ho-ho
Ooo-ho-ho
I was of the feeling it was out of control
And you said it was out of control
Ooo-ho-ho
Um-ho-ho
La-la-la-la
You keep me waiting
I can’t stand up for long
I can’t stand up
You can’t wake up
You got it? Out of control
Gotta feel it? Out of control
Hah, out of control
Out of control
I fought fate
There's blood at the garden gate
The man said childhood
It's in his childhood / Childhood
One day I'll die
The choice will not be mine
Will it be too late, too late
You can't fight fate
I was of the feeling it was out of control
You said, out of control
Ooo-ho-ho
Um-ho-ho
Thank you, goodnight
Thank you
God bless you
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you

Twilight (Live from San Francisco, May 15, 1981) [4:18]
California Hall
San Francisco, California
1981-05-15
Alright
It’s not very
It’s not very often you get to play with your favorite band
Thank you
Oh Romeo*
Can you feel it?
It’s a feeling
Can you feel it, Lord?
Have no sorrows
Here we go
I look into his eyes
But they're closed and I see something
A teacher told me why
I laugh when old men cry
(Lights go out again)
Here we go again
My body grows and grows
I know the lights burn low
I follow, I will try
To see the light… feel it
Twilight, darkened day
Twilight, can’t see my way
Twilight, love in a day
Twilight, can’t find my way
In the shadow boy meets a man
In a shadow boy meets man / Shadow
In the shadow boy meets man / Shadow
In a shadow boy meets man / Shadow
Let’s lite up as they used to say
Up, let’s see the lighters, alright
Up, I believe it’s a custom of yours anyway
Let’s see them
This is manpower, right?
Okay
I'm running in the rain
Well I saw a late night play
He’s all, he’s everything
I'm soaking through the skin
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Twilight, darkened day
Twilight, numbing gray
Twilight, meet today
Twilight, can't find my way
Can't find your way
Can't find my way
Can't find your way, ah
Twilight, darkened day
Twilight, numbing gray
Twilight, lost the way
Twilight, can't find my way
In the shadow boy meets man / Shadow
In the shadow boy meets man / Shadow
In a shadow boy meets other boys / Shadow
In a shadow boy meets a man / Shadow
Man…ah…man…ah…ah…ah
I’m not scared of the dark
Good night, see ya

Titled ‘Bono Kills Time’ [1:49] + ‘I Will Follow’ [4:24] at Wolfgang's Vault
California Hall
San Francisco, California

(Lights still out)
Hey
Thank you. Could you throw that torch up here?
Ah…we don’t really, we don’t really know…
We don’t really know what’s ah, what’s exactly gone wrong
But ah, this is something like ah they suffered I think during the Second World War
Is there anybody can, ah, fill in the time with, ah, a few stories maybe?
By the way this is ah, I’m sure this is the time
Where everybody makes up their mind that ah
You know we weren’t as good as we were supposed to be
Because everything fell down
Oh! Are these working now?
Ah, I suppose this is time where I got to try and be a bit of ah, a Billy Butlin
Do you know what a Billy Butlin is?
Billy Butlin used to run a holiday camp in England...Marsney
Butlin’s like ah, like Disneyland
And every time things went wrong he used to get up
And tell stupid jokes to keep everyone going like
While they fixed everything
Are we going to try and continue?
I think we are
Ah, ah there’s only one thing I think we can try and do
Whadya think, The Edge?
Right...good night...God bless you
I will follow
I was on the outside
When you say, you say you needed me
I was looking at myself
I was blind, could not see, oh
A boy tries hard to be a man
His mother takes him by his hand
If he stops to think, he starts to cry
Oh why
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
Follow
I was on the inside
When they pulled the four walls down
I was looking through the window
I was lost, I am found
Walk away, walk away
Walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
(Audio drop out)
Shh…
Your eyes make a circle
And I see you when I go in here
But it’s your eyes
But it’s your eyes
But it’s your eyes
Your...your eyes
La-la-la-la-la-la
Feel it
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
If you walk away, walk away
I walk away, walk away
I will follow
I will follow
But I will follow
I will follow
I will… follow
Follow
Good night
All right

Thank you
Thank you
Somebody ah, somebody’s delivered a gift
Champagne
Ah, this I presume must be for you
What is it?
Oh! Ah, ah, you better, you better…
I don’t really know how to drink this stuff, anyway
(Behave yourself, right now)
You know, I think we’re going to have to leave this till later
Sorry about that, um
Does anyone here like this stuff, anyway?
You like it! Listen it’s bad for you
We’ll see you in the fall
Until then, A Day Without Me
Starting a landslide
In my ego
Look from the outside
To a world I left behind
When I’m dreaming
You’re awake
If I was sleeping
What’s at stake?
A day without me, oh
Whatever the feeling
I keep feeling
What are the feelings
You’ve left behind
A day without me, oh
Feel it
Started a landslide
In my ego
Look from the outside
To the world I left behind
In the world I left behind
Wipe their eyes, then let go
In a world I left behind
Shed a tear, and they go home
Ya-home-oh
La-la, bo-bo-bo
Yo-ho
Bo-bo-bo
Ya-ah-oh
Bo-bo-bo-bo
