OTHER NOTES |
Bono originally wrote the song "Two Shots of Happy One Shot
of Sad" for Frank Sinatra to perform. He never recorded the song
before he passed away. U2 would later record their own version of
the song and release it as the b-side to the If
God Will Send His Angels single. In 2003 Nancy Sinatra approached
Bono to ask if she could record the song instead.
Initially it was announced that the band was upset with Nancy recording
this song, and that she had used the demo he had initially sent her father
illegally. This was not the case. U2 were quick to issue a
press release saying that the song was being performed with their permission,
and that there was no intention to sue Nancy as reported.
When the album appeared, fans learned that not only had U2 given permission,
but that Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton had appeared on the recording of
the song. Nancy does change about the lyrics significantly, and changes
the pronouns in the song, so that it sounds like she is singing about her
father. This song does not appear in solo listings for Bono and the
Edge, as we do not list songs that are covers of songs previously recorded
by U2 - it appears with a full discography entry due to Mullen and Clayton's
involvment in the recording. |
