LINER NOTES |
God's Laughter: Written by Brendan Kennelly.
Read by Bono.
Bono is the lead singler of the Irish rock group U2. U2 released
their first album in 1980 and have since sold over 100 million albums worldwide,
winning 14 Grammy's, and six Brit Awards along the way. Bono lives
in Dublin with his wife and four children. |
OTHER NOTES |
This book project was put together to benefit Focus Ireland,
a group in Ireland which aims to combat homelessness and to advance the
rights of homeless people in Ireland. Each poem collected in the
book is also read by someone on the contained three audio discs.
It is here that Bono performs, as he reads "God's Laughter" written by
Brendan Kennelly on the first disc. On the third disc one finds U2's
manager, Paul McGuinness, reading "Shapes and Shadows" by Derek Mahon.
On the middle disc of the set, longtime U2 collaborator, Gavin Friday adds
"From the Ballad of Reading Gaol" by Oscar Wilde.
Others contributing to the readings are politicians, movie stars, and
Irish celebritys. Anyone who's followed U2 closely over the years
should recognize more than a few of the names on the above list. |
