OTHER NOTES |
During the Popmart tour, U2 visited South America where he
met with the group known as the "Mothers of the Disappeared" who joined
U2 on stage. The song from The Joshua Tree album was written about
this group. While there they approached Bono about contributing to
an album which they were putting together. The album was recorded
in October 1997, and Bono contributed his portions on February 4, 1998.
He read the poem "Mother of God" by William Butler Yeats in both english
and spanish. He also recorded a short acapella version of "Mothers
of the Disappeared".
The album was first released in 1998 marking the 20th anniversary.
It is labelled on the cover "20 Anos". The compilation was rereleased
in 1999 with different artwork. |
