| On the fourth of July in 1999 Bono checked out Wyclef Jean's
studio in his New Jersey basement. While there, the idea was broached
to take Wyclef's song "New Day" and to re-record it under the title "War
Child" with additional vocals by Bono. The two recorded the song
the next day, but by the time it appeared in shops it was still titled
"New Day".
Proceeds from the sale of the single went to Net Aid, an organization
set up by Cisco Systems and the United Nations to help the poorest nations
in the world. Part of the proceeds also went to Wyclef's foundation
which aids refugees.
Bono is credited on the cover of the single, but the Pop Version and
the Pop Version Edit of the song are the only ones on which Bono appears.
The other remixes do not feature Bono's vocals. Bono did appear in
the video filmed for the song. |
